First time competing. Second place out of 48....David Vs. Goliath. Excited to share that two Mount Vernon CTE Hospitality/Culinary students placed 2nd and in the Top 16 in America’s Best High School Chef Competition at Monroe University on Saturday, earning $92K in scholarships. Only exceptional training and dedication could have made this possible for Mount Vernon’s first-ever entry in the national competition. Article here: https://lnkd.in/eVJjamS9

  • Join us on March 20, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM for CTE & Academic Integration: Why, Where, and How. What if CTE and academics did not just coexist, but powerfully reinforced one another? In this interactive session, the CTE TAC's Karyn Watt will unpack NYSED regulations surrounding integrated and specialized academics within CTE-approved programs and bring those requirements to life in practical, meaningful ways. Participants will explore why academic integration matters, where it is already happening, and how it can be expanded to meet commencement-level expectations with confidence. Through lesson samples and collaborative discussion, you will leave with concrete strategies for effective co-planning and co-teaching that strengthen curriculum, deepen rigor, and create authentic learning experiences that support both technical skill development and academic achievement. 🗓️ Date: March 20, 2026 ⏰ Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM 🎯 Audience: CTE Educators This session is one of three offered during our full day of professional development on March 20th. Last fall, we brought together more than 300 secondary and postsecondary CTE educators, plus business and industry partners, to explore how the New York State Portrait of a Graduate aligns with CTE. That work turned into a research brief I had the opportunity to author, and now I am excited to chat more about this work at our March 20 virtual PD session, Bringing the Portrait of a Graduate to Life in CTE. I will be sharing key insights from the brief, a few takeaways that stood out to us, and why this is encouraging news for CTE educators across New York State. Not to give too much away, but the findings made a strong case that CTE is already a powerful place for the Portrait of a Graduate to come alive.

Join us on March 20th, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM for Bringing the Portrait of a Graduate to Life in CTE. Ready to move Portrait of a Graduate attributes from posters to practice? In this session, Tanner Thompson from the CTE TAC will share four field-informed findings gathered from CTE stakeholders across New York State and translate them into a simple, usable action framework. Participants will walk away with concrete strategies to embed Portrait of a Graduate attributes into daily instruction, program planning and evidence, and work-based learning and partnership experiences, along with a clear starting point to bring back to their classroom or leadership team. 🗓️ Date: March 20, 2026 ⏰ Time: 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM 🎯 Audience: CTE Educators This is one of three sessions offered during our full day of professional development on March 20th. Celebrating #CTEMonth! 🎉 Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is an essential industry. Did you know that many BOCES offer HVAC career and technical education programs that allow students to begin training while still in high school? They also offer students practical life skills that go beyond the classroom. Alison Brownell, HVAC instructor at the WSWHE BOCES, shares why she believes #CTE opportunities are valuable for students.
