It is time. The Jefferson community showed up and showed out in blue and gold, with ear-to-ear smiles for this long-awaited groundbreaking milestone, made even more meaningful on Senior Day. We cheered in celebration of generations of Jefferson DEMOS dating back to the Class of 1967! Congratulations to the Class of 2026! Colas Hoffman Construction is honored to celebrate with you and proud to serve as your GC as the next chapter takes shape for our city, and especially for the students, educators, families, and community who fondly know Jeff as the heart of Black Portland. With deep gratitude to every team member, partner, and community voice who has helped carry progress forward. Thank you to PPS Superintendent Dr. Kimberlee Armstrong, PPS Board Vice Chair Michelle DePass, Jefferson High School Principal Drake Shelton, and the many others who have held the vision for Jefferson’s next chapter. Building Tomorrow Today
About us
At Colas Construction (COLAS), we are raising the standard for quality construction with a focus on sustainability, equity, and access to opportunity—we build to inspire community. We prioritize people over profits and take pride in being a leader in commercial real estate and construction. Our story began in 1997 in Portland, Oregon, a city we proudly call home. Today, our work extends throughout the Portland Metro and SW Washington, building community through projects that make a lasting impact. Founded by Hermann Colas, Jr., a scholar, U.S. Veteran, and proud Haitian American, COLAS remains true to its values: we build with excellence, integrity, and purpose, dedicating resources to lift others as we climb. COLAS is honored to be recognized as the #1 Most Admired Company in Commercial Real Estate & Development (2024) and to have been named among Oregon’s Most Admired Companies each consecutive year since 2018 by the Portland Business Journal. We are also proud that our Centennial Place Apartments project was named Top Project of the Year (2024) by DJC Oregon. As the only construction firm to earn both the Outstanding Rose Award and the Grand Rose Award by AGC Oregon for safety in construction (2020 and 2021), COLAS is proud to be nationally known for safety, sustainability, and excellence, reflecting our unwavering commitment to our mission: to build legacies and strengthen communities. At COLAS, we’re Building Tomorrow, Today!

💯 "Colas Construction was proud to help build this project alongside the Self Enhancement, Inc. team and the many partners who helped bring it to life. We look forward to seeing this building filled with families and the impact it will create in the community." Andrew Colas, President & CEO #BuildingTomorrowToday
When people ask about our Housing Development initiatives, the first thing that comes to mind is welcoming people back into the neighborhood they grew up in 🏡✨ We want our community to feel safe, seen, and at home. Soon, residents will begin filling The Luther Strong, Jr. & Dr. Jackie Strong Empowerment Village, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our neighbors back home. 🩵

Big things ahead: a 14-story mass timber high-rise is coming to the skyline, bringing 230 new affordable residences to the city core. #BuildingTomorrowToday
Broadway One, a 230-unit affordable housing development underway in downtown Portland, is a testament to what can happen when community partners and local governments collaborate to address the needs of Oregonians. The developers, Urban League of Portland and Home Forward, will operate an onsite early learning center and workforce development space. This approach reflects a broader shift in housing design, one that recognizes stability comes from rent affordability and access to services that support long-term success. Happy Birthday to our Founder, Hermann Colas Jr.! Join us in wishing him a joyful birthday and another momentous year ahead. At last week’s Top Out for West 6th Apartments, we climbed six stories up to take in the view. It was a fitting reflection of the way you lead, patient and steadfast, with perseverance and deep family values at the foundation. From all of us, thank you for leading with expertise and passion. Your legacy continues to inspire our team as we strengthen the communities we serve. #BuildingTomorrowToday

He built with his words. Perseverance shapes the future long before it arrives. A Kids Book About Construction now sits inside the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, in Atlanta, where Dr. King was born and raised, a reminder that learning creates access, nurtures imagination, and opens doors that once felt out of reach. Progress is sustained when we give, listen, and lift others as we move forward. Honoring Dr. King means continuing the work through education, representation, and building pathways for the next generation. #buildingtomorrowtoday
