This week we hosted the University of Oregon/Port of Portland Going Vertical Celebration at our University of Oregon Acoustic Research Laboratory, part of the Port of Portland’s redevelopment of the former Terminal 2 Marine site on the Willamette River. The facility will serve as the first North American center for high-throughput acoustic testing of floor-ceiling assemblies, including but not limited to mass timber systems. Construction continues to make strong progress, with the mass timber structure now over 50% complete and expected to wrap up this summer. Framing for the surrounding office and UO Energy Studies in Buildings Laboratory spaces, along with exterior envelope work, will begin in the coming weeks, while the underground utility scope is approximately 80% complete. The project is anticipated to receive temporary occupancy early next year, with completion expected in the spring, followed by certification of the testing chamber.

There’s nothing better for learning than doing! Our mentorship programs in Boise and Seattle had hands on concrete demos last week. The groups participated in a live slab pour, slump testing, mixing demonstrations, and plan interpretation lessons. Thank you to Suncore, STRATA inc., and Ox Concrete for making these events happen!
