Most GCCs measure AI progress by training completion — certifications issued, programs finished, hours logged. These numbers feel reassuring, but they rarely tell leaders whether work is actually changing. The real signal is decision quality and problem-solving speed. Being AI-trained and being AI-productive are two very different things, and the gap between them is where most enterprises are losing value today. In a new article for BW People.in, Thirumala Arohi Mamunooru, Chief Learning Officer at Cognizant, explores why episodic training tends to produce awareness without productivity, and what builds genuine fluency instead: skills tied to real decisions, development embedded into daily work and visible leadership commitment to AI as a strategic priority. At Cognizant, we recognize that opportunities often arise in unexpected places and that careers rarely follow a straight line. This month in the UK, we welcomed 26 young people supported by The King's Trust to St George's Park, the home of England football, for a day focused on confidence, skills and future career possibilities. Our aim was to provide insights into careers across sport, technology and business through practical workshops, team challenges and behind-the-scenes access to one of the UK's most iconic sporting venues. The event highlighted the power of collaboration between business, sport and community organizations to inspire the next generation and help young people broaden their horizons. Through our partnerships, we're creating opportunities that build confidence, develop skills and open up career pathways on and off the pitch. This work also supports Cognizant's Synapse initiative—our commitment to equip more than two million people worldwide with the digital and technology skills to succeed by 2030. As The King's Trust celebrates 50 years of supporting young people, we're proud to play a small part in helping the next generation explore new possibilities and discover future career opportunities.

Two-thirds of businesses have yet to demonstrate measurable productivity gains from AI. The technology is only part of the equation. "As we see it, only about 20% of the value from an AI initiative comes from the technology. The remaining 80% comes from business reimagination, change management and the introduction of an AI harness," said Sushant Warikoo, Chief Business Officer, AI at Cognizant, in Newsweek. The AI harness is the operational layer that brings together governance, security, FinOps, workflows and shared context, helping organizations scale AI across the enterprise. That's how organizations turn AI investments into measurable business value. Read the full piece: https://cgnz.at/6046actq4

In his most recent piece for the US Chamber of Commerce, our CEO Ravi Kumar S argues that AI is moving capabilities once concentrated in specialist and supervisory roles into the hands of frontline workers. And, to translate that shift into value businesses must redesign work around it, giving workers authority to act and ownership of outcomes, while ensuring they share in the gains. At Cognizant, we’re putting this idea into practice by hiring 20,000+ graduates, repurposing talent and building AI capability across our workforce. For decades, expertise was built through repetition. What happens when AI removes much of that work? The Wall Street Journal examines a growing challenge some organizations are calling "experience starvation" as AI automates many of the tasks traditionally performed by early-career professionals. The article highlights how companies, including Cognizant, are rethinking how skills, judgment and expertise are developed in the AI era. Read more: https://cgnz.at/6041acwbb

The AI debate is often framed as a choice between moving faster and moving safely. It doesn't have to be. In a new TIME op-ed, Ravi Kumar S, Babak Hodjat and Jeff DeMarrais argue that business value and trust will increasingly depend on how AI is deployed: through clear roles, bounded workflows, scoped access, verification and accountability. As AI capabilities continue to advance, deployment becomes the differentiator. The organizations that create lasting value will be those that can turn intelligence into governed outcomes.
