Every day a student attends school is an opportunity to learn, build relationships, discover interests, and develop skills that support future success. Recently, the Cleveland Browns Foundation convened educators, community leaders, and partners to discuss solutions to attendance barriers and share strategies for helping more students get to school every day. Managed by Battelle, the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network now serves 195 school districts across Ohio, demonstrating what's possible when schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations work together toward a common goal. 📖 Read more about the Browns' ongoing effort to address chronic absenteeism: https://okt.to/c94Tpu Stay in the Game! Battelle was proud to host a community roundtable for the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network and join in the conversation with districts and fellow community partners. As the host of Stay in the Game! we are excited about the impact of this work and the connections that were made in the room.

As we close out Suicide Prevention Month, the conversation does not end. In many ways, it is just the beginning. While September brings added visibility to the issue, supporting the health and well-being of service members, veterans, families and communities requires ongoing awareness, dialogue and action throughout the year. At Battelle, our work in human health and performance is rooted in understanding the people behind readiness. That means engaging in meaningful conversations about the challenges that affect those who serve and exploring ways to strengthen support systems, reduce risk and improve long-term outcomes. In this Critical Conversations blog, we examine suicide in the military and the continued effort to better understand risk factors, advance prevention strategies and build more connected approaches to care and support. Imagine if stroke rehabilitation extended beyond the clinic walls. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) has shown effectiveness in helping stroke survivors regain motor skills by combining stimulation with their movement efforts. However, this treatment often relies on a therapist to manually initiate stimulation, which restricts its use outside medical facilities. In this blog, we discuss how an EMG-based wearable device could make VNS available at home. By recognizing a patient's intention to move and automatically providing stimulation at the needed moment, autonomous VNS could significantly enhance the accessibility, frequency, and efficacy of rehabilitation.
