What would your life look like without internet access? Native American communities have built thriving cultures for generations — often while navigating underinvestment in the infrastructure everyone else takes for granted. Matthew Rantanen created Tribal Broadband Bootcamps to support changemakers in Native American communities to create and own their own communications infrastructure. Connectivity shouldn't be a luxury. It's an on-ramp to the broader economy, to opportunity, to participation. #AshokaAsks #AshokaFellows Video by Cohen Borschow Media

A healthy democracy and civil society begins with making it easier for people from all walks of life to contribute to the common good. This is the "everyone a changemaker" vision that Ashoka works towards and that Michael Zakaras explores in this podcast with Mila Atmos from Future Hindsight. https://lnkd.in/d5_fRZzn

"I like to think of universities as cities unto themselves." Diya Abdo built Every Campus A Refuge on that idea. Campuses have housing, resources, and people — everything needed to welcome refugee families who have much to contribute and need a new start. In this clip, she shares one thing each of us can do to turn our campuses and communities into refuges👇 #AshokaAsks #AshokaFellows Video by Cohen Borschow Media

Imagine being a teen and helping prep a real legal case. That's exactly what students are doing at the first high school legal clinics in the US — started by lawyer and social entrepreneur Armin Salek. Young people from diverse communities in Texas learn legal literacy by actually doing: researching issues, working through cases, and collaborating with a practicing lawyer on things that matter to their communities — housing, eviction, immigration, and more. As Armin says in this short clip: "I trust that the next generation is well equipped to serve all of us." #AshokaAsks #AshokaFellows Video produced by Cohen Borschow Media

Join us this Wednesday for Welcome Change. RSVP below!
What if the most powerful climate voices aren't at UN summits, but in college dorms and village streets across India? On May 6th, we'll meet Ashoka Fellow Anshul Tewari, who started Youth Ki Awaaz (Voice of the Youth) at 17 because he saw that young people too often weren't in the stories being told. Today it's India's largest citizen media platform: 200,000 contributors, 20 million readers, and a generation documenting the world they're inheriting and the future they envision. This convo with Ashoka People & Planet Simon Stumpf will run about 30 minutes. See you there, bring your questions! Join us Wednesday! https://lnkd.in/g6gDish6

India spends an estimated $150 billion a year on social protections, yet many benefits go unclaimed due to the complexity of accessing them, among other factors. On April 29th, we're joined by Ashoka Fellow Tarun Cherukuri, founder of Indus Action, an organization using technology and grassroots advocacy to close the gap, with the goal of enabling 30 million vulnerable citizens to sustainably access social protection by 2030. Plus: This week, Indus Action was recognized with a Skoll Foundation Award for Social Innovation at the Skoll World Forum in Oxford! The session runs 30 minutes. One year ago, Ashoka founder Bill Drayton received the Global Treasure Award from the Skoll Foundation: a tribute to a lifetime of building the world's leading network of social entrepreneurs. Today, that network is very much alive, with more than 80 Ashoka Fellows and staff convening at the Skoll World Forum #SWF26.

Tune in for this edition of our news series Welcome Change. Let’s learn from what social entrepreneurs in India are achieving on this front and apply insights in the U.S.!
𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸. 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗶𝘁. 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁. In India, one in four social benefits never reaches the person it was meant for. Not because the programs don't exist. Because the last mile is broken. I nominated Ashoka Fellow Tarun Cherukuri for the Skoll Award because I believe he is one of the most important social entrepreneurs working today, quietly, and at enormous scale. His organization Indus Action is doing something that sounds simple and turns out to be incredibly hard: making sure the benefits governments promise actually arrive. In India. For a billion people. And building a blueprint the rest of the world can use. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗻? 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, I will bring it to the conversation. Join us. 30 minutes.* 📅 Wednesday, April 29 *Can’t join live? No problem.
