Nearly half of prescriptions in the U.S. go unfilled due to cost. On the latest episode of the The Catholic Health Association of the United States Health Calls Podcast, Mike Wascovich, Ascension Vice President of Medication Management and Chief Pharmacy Officer, shares how we are helping close medication access gaps with Dispensary of Hope by connecting donated medications to patients who need them most. “When a patient walks out with their medication in hand, they don't have to choose between putting food on the table, paying their rent, or taking care of their health. It immediately changes the trajectory of their care.” The conversation highlights how collaboration can improve medication access, reduce hospitalizations, and help patients better manage chronic conditions. Yesterday, Eduardo Conrado, Ascension President and CEO, joined David Dill and Ken Marlow at McDermott Will & Schulte HealthEx 2026 to discuss the defining decisions shaping the future of healthcare. The conversation focused on how health systems are navigating economic and regulatory pressures while shifting beyond the traditional hospital model into more ambulatory, virtual, and community-based care. Eduardo also discussed the role of technology and strategic partnerships in reducing complexity, improving access, and supporting caregivers. At Ascension, we remain focused on building a more connected healthcare experience that better serves the communities we are called to care for.

Research reaches its fullest potential when it moves beyond the lab and into critical moments that impact patient care. At Ascension, nursing research is grounded in real, bedside questions, and designed to drive meaningful, system-wide change. From reducing falls with harm and addressing compassion fatigue, to advancing pressure injury prevention, our nurses are building evidence that informs care practices across every market and setting. We honor the clinicians, caregivers, and nurse scientists whose compassion, curiosity, and leadership are shaping healthcare through the care they deliver and the evidence they generate. For many patients, the biggest barriers to health occur long before they reach our doors. Since 2020, Ascension has conducted more than 4.9 million social determinants of health screenings, identifying needs around food access, transportation, affordable medicine, and more, so we can guide patients to the right resources at the right time. By understanding the full picture of a patient’s life, we can connect them to the community resources they need for comprehensive, whole-person health. Learn how we’re strengthening a patient-centered approach to meeting needs and improving outcomes. https://lnkd.in/gBVRsrpy

Prevention works best when it meets patients at the right moment. Dr. Mitesh Patel, Ascension Chief Clinical Transformation Officer, and Joshua M. Liao, MD, MSc, Ascension Associate Vice President of Clinical Transformation highlight how simple text message reminders are helping patients prepare for care before they walk into the clinic in this recent Becker's Healthcare Hospital Review. This results in more opportunities to address preventive needs, fewer missed appointments, and more effective visits. Read more about the ways we are meeting people where they are. https://lnkd.in/eG-iwt5j
