🚨 Happening TOMORROW: Join AFF, Kita, and Climate Resilient Solutions for a webinar to learn more about our Permanence Trust concept for managing non-permanence risk in nature-based projects. 🏦 By setting aside resources when credits are sold, a Trust can monitor for and remedy reversals over the long term, strengthening the integrity of the credits and the entire voluntary carbon market. 🧪 We’ll also unveil preliminary findings from our feasibility study — the roadmap for putting this idea into practice. 🔗 Register at the link in the comments. Hope to see you there!

Delivering meaningful conservation impact through the empowerment of family forest landowners.
About us
The American Forest Foundation (AFF) is a national conservation organization that works to deliver clean water, wildlife habitat, carbon sequestration and storage, and sustainable wood supplies to those that value it, by empowering family forest owners to care for their land. AFF is the only conservation group working on a national level across a wide range of partners to empower family forest owners to cultivate conservation impact in their forests, and to ensure that impact is valued, paid for and supported. We develop strategies, solutions and partnerships to that help landowners overcome the challenges they face to creating well-managed forests. The American Forest Foundation oversees the American Tree Farm System, the Family Forest Carbon Program, My Sierra Woods and many other programs.

Landowners are giving the Family Forest Carbon Program 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 92% of landowners enrolled in the program said they would recommend FFCP to family and friends. We also saw 340 enrollees present at our 2025 educational events, creating a space for small-acreage landowners to learn from AFF and their each other. To learn more about how family forest owners partnered with AFF in 2025, go to the link in the comments. #ForestCarbonProjects #ForestResilience #FamilyForests

📣SAVE THE DATE 📣 Join AFF and Kita on March 26 for a webinar on our Permanence Trust concept including preliminary findings from our ongoing feasibility study. While other market tools exist to address non-permanence risk, a Permanence Trust is unique in that it would calculate how many financial resources should be set aside today to grow and be actively used to manage non-permanence risk for all credit types, strengthening credibility and integrity for participating projects and the entire voluntary carbon market. Lead Scientist Lynn Riley, Senior Manager of Product Refinement Kristina Hughes, and Kita’s Head of Carbon Markets Racheal Notto will discuss the ongoing feasibility study, advisory group discussions, and the next steps of the concept. AFF CEO Rita Hite joined Shauna Matkovich of the Forest Invest podcast as one of seven notable women leaders in forestry to reflect on her career journey and how she’s navigated the forestry world as a woman. “After I became CEO of the American Forest Foundation, I had a hard time moving into the CEO office, and I realized that was about me not feeling like I fit in the shoes. So I painted a wall in the office pink so that it felt like me and created an opportunity for me to be myself. That’s something I try to live everyday in this role – to bring my full self – which helps me lead a team that’s all humans. It builds a camaraderie and connectedness that makes you not just work harder and more efficiently but enjoy what you’re doing, as well.” Check out the full episode to hear more about Rita’s story and the experiences of this trailblazing cohort of women leaders at the link in the comments! #WomenInForestry #ForestInvestment #Forestry

Last month AFF invited several of our partners to Montgomery, Alabama, to meet some of the landowners enrolled in the Family Forest Carbon Program and tour their properties. Whether it’s our improved forest management practice or our tree planting project, AFF would not be able to do the work of healing the planet and strengthening family forests without the immense support of our partners. 🌳 Tree planting services are made possible by IFCO PRT nurseries, F&W Forestry, the Arbor Day Foundation, Nutrien, and Funga 🤝 Outreach to landowners is conducted by the Alabama Forestry Commission, Alabama Forestry Foundation, and Help For Landowners Organization 🏦 Public funding to kickstart our work was provided by the USDA Forest Service and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service By combining forces with these organizations and furthering our public-private partnership, we are unlocking the full power of forests to make a real difference. AFF President and CEO Rita Hite sat down with Carolyn Hutcheson from NPR and Troy Public Radio’s In Focus to talk about her experience working alongside landowners enrolled in the Family Forest Carbon Program. We believe the best solutions are created by collaborating with those on the ground. Family forest owners are on the front lines, caring for their land, navigating natural disasters, and addressing the impacts of climate change in real time. As we continue strengthening how we protect and restore American forests, their voices must lead the way. #ForestCarbonProjects #VoluntaryCarbonMarket
