Unfortunately, I’ve been exposed to a wide range of situations involving executive misconduct, conflict of interest and inappropriate behaviors. I’ve also seen it a few ways; as a board member, as a CEO and as an executive. I’ve seen this in the US, Canada and EU. I have to say, how one responds is very dependent on the local laws, the process and how litigious you are prepared to be. I’ve always felt integrity and taking the high ground is critical to navigating this. Doing the right thing can involve sacrifices and it may not always tilt your way so be careful. The blowback sometimes can be significant. That said, I’ve never been punished for doing the right thing. I’ve been disappointed when others get away with doing the wrong thing.

As the first female President of the DHL Supply Chain in Poland, I embodied DHL's core values and promoted them throughout the organization. My face was featured in the media We won awards and the publicity was significant. However, when I have witnessed a misconduct on high levels of the organization, I had reported this to internal compliance department and demanded an internal audit. As a result, I had been subjected to group pressure, humiliation, and was ultimately removed from the board – sneakingly, while out on sick leave. I had ventured to sue DHL in the court. Personal integrity and doing the right thing is too important to me. I hope my example will inspire others and maybe even be a domino effect.
