You should also be familiar with the tools and software that are used in the construction industry, such as CAD, BIM, MS Project, and Primavera. Essential leadership skills for project managers start with motivating and inspiring teams. Other leadership skills including negotiating, communicating, listening, influencing skills, and team building are also important, especially to the extent that they contribute towards improving team performance.

An effective leader combines conceptual (vision, planning), technical and human (teamwork, communication, persuasion, motivation, empathy) skills. He adapts his style (democratic, situational) to the maturity of the team and the situation, encouraging autonomy or giving direction as needed. Seeks to motivate, inspire, delegate, resolve conflicts and create a positive environment to achieve objectives.

Construction PM? Master organization! Plan scope, goals, schedule, budget. Monitor progress, quality. Manage issues, changes. Document, report clearly. Use WBS, CPM, Gantt charts. Stay in control.
