So change happens, whether it be from the client or because of the unforeseen, the key things for me are trust in the team to manage and still deliver the project on time and at an agreed cost. Feel safe to report what the effects are on cost, programme sequences and what the consequences of the change to the over all project could be to the stakeholders. Some clients just love change to keep PM's on their toes, it is their money after all that they are investing so be flexible, remain calm and make it happen.

Change orders don’t necessarily need to be rigidly avoided. They’re an important part of the project process that can contribute to a better overall result. But whenever possible, it’s preferred to set your project up in a way that can accomplish the ideal outcome without change orders. One of the best ways to prevent changes down the road is to get a very clear vision of the project’s end result. Sit down with key stakeholders internally and discuss what’s important in relation to the project. Once these needs are prioritized and applied to the larger picture, bring them to your design and construction teams.

First, I explain to them that frequent changes are an opportunity to learn a lot and gain significant experience in a short time. They must understand the fundamentals upon which different work systems are based. Additionally, they should collaborate and be patient to handle changes effectively.
