In my limited experience, best ways to spot and cultivate emerging leaders are:- 1. Team members who have 'depth' on any particular topic instead of having 'surface-level' knowledge only. 2. Team members who acknowledge that they would outgrow their peers only if they outdo their peers (referring to the quote that if you do the same thing like everyone else, you will receive same rewards as everyone else) 3. Last but most important, if you give them a problem to solve, they won't give up unless they solve that. In addition, they would also teach such problem solving skills to their juniors. 4. Identifying those who think and act beyond their 'designation'.
