1. Understand very well the cost structure: without good data, it's not guaranteed any initiative will significantly impact the overall product cost. 2. Identify and prioritize opportunities: use an effort x benefit chart, the "high pay, low effort" initiatives should be the first ones. 3. Execute pilots and scale: start small in a single work cell, line or area. Learn and adjust. Then scale to the whole plant and across. Measure the benefits.
