Sustainable success requires a balance between immediate wins and long-term impact, both in business and in parenting. Just as we guide children with patience and long-term vision, we must also support teams in seeing beyond short-term goals. The key is to create an environment where both immediate progress and long-term growth are valued and aligned. One way to achieve this is through intentional communication—connecting everyday tasks to a larger purpose, fostering resilience in the face of setbacks, and celebrating small wins as stepping stones toward a bigger vision. How do you encourage your team (or family) to stay engaged with long-term goals while celebrating the progress they make today?

Tell them why! The context is incredibly important. If they don’t know why, they’ll do what gives them recognition. Which means that you may need to change your rewards and recognition system to recognized long-term goal achievement over short-term ones.
