How would you prioritize functionality over aesthetics in a limited space design project?

When I am designing small spaces, I always prioritis functionality. I focus on space planning first, making sure movement and routines flow smoothly. I also choose dual-purpose furniture like ottomans with storage, sofa beds, or fold-out desks.

On my opinion, both are important. You cannot prioritize one over the other. Sometimes, is important clarify and expain to the client that everything they wants do not fit on the space because the room is small. When it happen, I´ll sketching by-hands as we talk and discuss theirs needs. But for me, no matter if it is a big or a limited size, the space needs to be functional and aesthetic and I have to find one good solution. This is why, I work as an Interior Design.

Living in a compact space makes you appreciate every inch! I realized that the less I own, the better my space looks and feels. Floating shelves, mirrors, and foldable furniture have saved me so many times. I once turned an awkward nook into a cozy reading spot with just a wall lamp and a floor cushion.🙊

I start by understanding how you live—whether you need a workspace, a spot to unwind, or clever storage. Then I layer in smart solutions, like a fold-away desk or a window bench with storage. I avoid bulky, one-purpose furniture and create custom pieces that multitask, like an extendable table or a headboard with built-ins. Beauty is never sacrificed—soft textures, natural light, and clean lines bring elegance without compromising function. Good design is about smarter choices that reflect your lifestyle, making the space feel just right.
