I challenge the assumption that emotional intelligence alone can fix cross-functional collaboration. The issue is - we often focus too much on differences instead of the common goal that brought us together. A cross-functional team brings diversity of unique priorities, communication styles and decision-making approaches. And this can create friction, but when we shift focus to the shared goal, collaboration becomes easier. Ironically, when we align on the goal, we see diversity (different strengths, approaches, and views) as essential drivers of success. True collaboration isn’t about eliminating differences but leveraging them for better outcomes. We need to address this - are we focused on styles or the outcome we’re here to achieve?

In my opinion, it's all about adding perspective to end goal. If cross functional teams are convinced that they all are working for same goal, then collaboration will not be difficult. But, if cross functional teams run and operate with individual or single team goal or setup, then it's very difficult to achieve cross functional teams collaboration. Second most powerful tool is to create bonds across teams. This can be achived by helping each other to deliver and foster collaborative culture.
