Many of you have asked for it and it's finally here. With over 5 million sites using Google Friend Connect to awaken and strengthen their communities, we wanted to make it easier for those of you who prefer languages other than English to take full advantage of it. Today, we are happy to announce that Friend Connect is supported in 47 additional languages.
As a site owner, you can view google.com/friendconnect in any of these languages, which should make setting up your site much more intuitive. Better yet, you can now choose the language of your site (which can be different for each of your sites). Once selected, most Google-created gadgets and any translated third party gadgets on your site will automatically render in that language. This ensures that the Friend Connect gadgets are better integrated into your site and easily understood by your visitors. Visit the gadget gallery to see which gadgets are available in your language.
Friend Connect is now supported in Arabic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Latvian, Lingala, Lithuanian, Malay, Malayalam, Marathi, Norwegian, Oriya, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.

Its really good that google is focusing and is serious for the regional level things.
I wish it expands more so that people can make optimum use of this.

Friend Connect now supports languages at site-level. But some sites are multilingual. Language shouldn't be an attribute of the site: it should an attribute of the gadget.

What about international sites used around the world ? Should such sites create local domain in every country to use it? Is it possible to switch the lagguage via API?

The wizzard and the generated code should be updated to support the locale parameter.

But wait a minute, @Sami... "locale: 'ar'" for Argentina? Is the value of "locale" a country? Or a language (for example, "locale: 'es-ar'")?

@badosa you should be able to pass in the locale as specified by:
language code
OR
language code + "_" + country
e.g. en = english, en_US = english (US)

I chose Japanese as a site language. However, I want to detect the language automatically.
Can I choose the setting of the automatic discovery? I looked for it, but setting is not found.

How do I shut it off? I'm in Turkey and I can't read your FC menus anymore!!
auto-detect is fine.. but how to I set or change the default language? It doesn't seem obvious from the menus!!

hope we will get the option to send a message to our members as site admins too....
or else, its just turning out to be more and more and more members but no use or interaction at all....

@SVBillabong, to change the language, log out of your account and then go to google.com/friendconnect. Then select your desired language from the menu in the top right corner of the page. To change the language of gadgets on your site, log into your account and click on the "Site settings" tab. From there, select your "Site Language" and then click "Save and test".
@なかじまん, Friend Connect gadgets are intended to match the language of the content on your site, so there is currently no setting to automatically detect the language of the visitor.
