Extend ring time before caller is sent to voice mail

As most of you’ve noticed the Samsung Epix forces “increasing ringtones” which can make it difficult to hear your Epix ring, causing you to scramble to answer your phone, only to have it go to voicemail before you can pick up.

Here’s a trick to extend the ring time before the caller is sent to voice mail, which will hopefully give you the extra seconds needed to answer your phone.

• Start > Settings > Personal tab > Phone > Services tab
• Select “Call Forwarding” from the list and press “Get Settings…”
• In the “No answer” section, change the value of the “Foward after” to “30 seconds”

Now you have an extra 10 seconds of ring time before incoming calls are forwarded to Voicemail - its not much, but its better than the default 20 seconds!

Attention! If you have a Samsung Epix, make sure you install this patch!

Samsung has released their official notification fix for the Samsung Epix (SGH-i907). This patch allows for audio and vibration notification for new e-mails when in sleep mode.

The Samsung SGH-i907, known as the EPIX, supports multiple methods of notifications for events through visual and audio alerts. By implementing power saving techniques, a side effect that disables audio alerts was noticed.

Samsung has developed a software patch which will now enable the EPIX to provide audible notifications alerts for your emails when the device enters an unattended power saving mode.

Issues this patch does NOT address:

• LED alerts for SMS messages remains unchanged. The LED will blink a few times and then turn off.
• LED alerts for e-mail messages remains unchanged. The LED will blink a few times and then turn off.
• “Display message on screen” still reverts back to being “checked” after a soft reset.
  

Note: This patch will need to be re-installed whenever completing a hard reset.

I finally got around to installing the Invisible Shield for my Samsung Epix, and as expected it works great.

Those of you that have visited MyBlackjack2.com know that I am a big fan of the Invisible Shield and think its the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to protecting mobile devices. I’m not a fan of cases that add any extra bulk to my phone, so the Invisible Shield is the perfect solution. 

The Invisible Shield is an incredible thin clear plastic film that you apply to the major surfaces of your Samsung Epix and it prevents your phone from getting scratched, its pretty amazing stuff. Because its clear and thin its almost invisible when applied to your phone. It has a very slight “grip” feeling which I thought might make touch-screen use difficult, but I was pleasantly suprised that it didn’t impact the usability of the touch-screen.

I got the Fullbody kit which is nice because it protects the back, but if your not too concerned about the back you can get the Screen kit for a couple bucks cheaper.

Please read over these instructions before installing the Invisible Shield.

1. BE PATIENT! Expect a full body kit install will take around 30 mins, if not more. Rushing the install will result in disappointing results.
2. Make sure your hands are clean as possible before performing the install.
3. Make sure you are someplace with as little dust/hair/etc. as possible (away from animals, carpet that sheds, fuzzy sweaters, etc.)
4. Find a lint-free cloth, and clean your smartphone prior to installing
5. Make sure you are installing the InvisibleShield in a well lit area so you can see what you are doing
6. If you run out of the fingerprint shield spray (which you definitely will if you get the full body kit) refill with water. Apply fingerprint shield spray liberally.
7. Let the phone dry in a clean/lint-free environment for the full 24 hours.
8. You will probably have a couple bubbles for the first week or so — don’t stress over trying to get them out, they’ll work their way out on their own.

I highly recommend the InvisibleShield for all your electronic gadgets (Other Smartphones, iPod, iPhones, etc.)
