Chrono Trigger Staff Remains
Contrary to rumors on the Web, the Chrono Trigger crew, for the most part, is still on board for Chrono Cross.
It's been rumored that a new crew at Square is designing Chrono Cross and that none of the original talent has returned for the sequel. In actuality, the only main people from the original team not involved in Chrono Cross are the Dream Team - Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, and Akira Toriyama.
Most of the production staff of Chrono Cross had a hand in designing Chrono Trigger. The scenario writer and director, Masato Kato, and the music composer, Yasunori Mitsuda, are two popular names from Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, and Xenogears.
Chrono Cross producer Hiromichi Tanaka has stated, "Our production staff is strongly determined in creating a new Chrono. They don't want to rely on big names like the Dream Team, but prove themselves to gamers through the game's contents. In that sense, maybe the Dream Team is no longer needed. We are well aware that it is not a start from zero, but from a start from minus. But with our determination, we believe we can create a sequel that may surpass its predecessor. It is also our way of returning the favor to the Dream Team."
So, while the Dream Team is no longer involved, one must keep in mind that three people can't take credit for a game, but rather the credit should be given to the production team as a whole. We should wish the team the best of luck in completing what will surely become the next masterpiece in the Chrono series.
