I'm trying to use a fairly average plugin in terms of CPU and RAM usage in Windows - Adam Szabo's Viper. In Windows it uses about 100MB per instance while running it through LinVst is uses 4GB per instance. This makes me ran out of my 32GB of RAM very quickly. What could be the problem? Is this possible to solve? I'm using the latest Debian.

Same happens with running the full DAW in wine and when using yabridge

  • this seems like a bug to report to the author of the plugin rather than an answerable question for U&L....but does it actually use all 4GB or just ask for it but never use it all? 4GB is suspiciously like the 32-bit address limit, so maybe it's a 32-bit app and the plugin is just asking the OS "gimme all available memory"? • All is 64bit. Exact memory usage for each process is 4,6 GB Commented Oct 30 at 5:07

Can you show how you determine the RAM usage? Commented Oct 30 at 15:39
  • Using system monitor in Gnome/KDE. And it makes the system unresponsive after adding too many instances Commented Oct 31 at 12:38
