What do you do if your boss disagrees with your web design approach?
When faced with a boss that does not agree with your approach. Then consider if you have provided a set of options and have demonstrated how they have been successful in the real world. If there is still push back. Then the issue is not the options, but control that is being asserted. If this happens then it’s best to go with the version your boss wants to build trust, then try and weave in some adjustments along the way. Overtime your boss may losen the reigns. It’s always good to know the motivation behind pushback, before pushing an idea too far.

How can you avoid micromanaging your team?
Micromanaging is counterproductive because it hinders creativity and increases stress. Where goals are clear, then there is little need for hand holding. The challenge is often when we work in a space where goals are unclear because of a reorganisation for example. In this instance even managers may struggle to understand the objectives. A great way to tackle this is to brainstorm with your team, and collectively come up with a shared goal which aims to meet the organisation objective. Then from there carve out the individual goals for each individual team member. This approach can also be fun, whilst building rapport too.

How do you develop and test hypotheses using data?
Too often experiments are presented with key data and outcomes, yet the researchers have forgotten to include their study design and test type together. This makes it difficult for other researchers to complete the same experiment to test on new assumptions. Controlling confounding factors can be done in a number of ways, and aside from using randomisation, another popular way is to restrict a treatment group by only including subjects with the same values of potential confounding factors. (Thomas, 2022) Sometimes bias cannot be minimised, however it should always be reported, so that other researchers or end users can understand the relevance and context.
