Richard Corps reposted thisRichard Corps reposted thisWe are excited to share that Pippa Labs is collaborating with the Computational Philosophy Lab at Northeastern University London to test-drive its AI ethics 3D model as part of our efforts to implement AI more effectively and responsibly. At Pippa Labs, our mission is to connect the world's capabilities through AI. That only means something if the AI we build is worth trusting. This collaboration is part of how we make sure it is. The model was developed by Brian Ball, Professor of Philosophy, and Alice Helliwell, Assistant Professor of Philosophy. We have spent the last few months working through it properly, and it has genuinely changed how we think and talk about what we are building. For us, this is about more than building with AI. It is about building AI that is useful, trustworthy, and grounded in real-world ethics from the start. Why this matters to us: - It gives us a practical framework for evaluating how AI is designed and deployed. - It helps us stress-test ethical considerations, not just technical performance. - It reflects our belief that innovation and responsibility should go hand in hand. We are looking forward to learning from this collaboration and sharing more as we go. If you are interested in hearing more about Pippa Labs, we would love to connect.

Richard Corps reacted on thisRichard Corps reacted on thisCobra Beer began because of a frustration I had whenever I ate Indian food in Britain. I loved curry, but I never enjoyed the beer that came with it, as most lagers felt far too gassy and most ales tasted too bitter when paired with food. I kept thinking there had to be something better, a beer with the refreshment of a lager and the smoothness of an ale, while being less gassy, more balanced, and designed to complement Indian food rather than overpower it. That simple thought became an obsession. In 1990, we brewed the very first batch of Cobra Beer in Bangalore, shipped it to Britain, and stored it in our small flat on Fulham Palace Road in London. We had no investors backing us, no big marketing campaign behind us, and no certainty that any of this would work. We were two founders with £20,000 of debt and a battered old Citroën 2CV called Albert, which we had bought for £295. We drove from restaurant to restaurant carrying crates ourselves, asking owners to try a beer they had never heard of before and persuading them to take a chance on something completely new. Some restaurant owners politely refused, while others would say: “Leave a few cases with us and let’s see how it goes.” Those moments meant everything to us. Because when you are building something from nothing, every customer matters, and every small breakthrough gives you the belief and determination to keep moving forward. Even today, when I walk into restaurants around the world and see Cobra Beer on the menu, I still think back to those early years, the long drives, the heavy boxes, the uncertainty, and the belief that kept us going. Cobra Beer began with a problem worth solving and the determination to keep knocking on doors until someone finally opened one. That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life and career. What problem do you want to solve?

When I joined Sovereign AI, I set myself a challenge: build something genuinely different inside government. I wanted to change what people expect from a government-backed organisation. Real ambition. Founders in the room. A brand built to last. Today's announcement is the first proof point. Sovereign AI exists to back the next generation of great British founders to start here, scale here, and win globally. Today we start the countdown to our launch in April. I’ve had a lot of fun building this so far and look forward to what’s to come. Follow Sovereign AI 👇

https://lnkd.in/ezE83FXw Britain’s most powerful supercomputer has come online as the Government unveils plans for a major drive in AI research across the country. Technology Secretary Peter Kyle flicked the switch on the Isambard-AI machine in Bristol on Thursday, in a move ministers say will help the UK develop new medical cures and tools to cut emissions. The Government has pledged £1 billion to increase Britain’s compute capacity 20-fold by 2030, including through the creation of a series of AI “growth zones” designed to hasten planning approvals for new data centres. The processing speeds offer capacity never seen before in the UK, allowing researchers and industry to harness the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in fields such as robotics, big data, climate research and drug discovery.

Thank you so much to Lord Kulveer Ranger for such a key question in the UK House of Lords. Like many, I have no answer in relation to the likelihood of singularity. The piece related to AI IP sovereignty, for me, starts by making AI work in 🦖🦕aging technology estates (which includes cloud). From making AI part of the fabric of our day-day will then help people-organisations adopt AI whilst it perhaps advances towards singularity. In relation to public procurement. So much hard work is undertaken by so many following the rigour of public procurement. I worry whether the construct is still fit for purpose. Also I’m sceptical at how open public sector and government is to engaging UK SMEs when much technology procurement is largely dominated by hyperscalers. Irrespective of this we can certainly learn so much from what has already been done. Firstly and most importantly, setting out a clear framework on where to play and the guardrails on how to play – this must be easy to follow and act upon. Clarity on where use cases will drive meaningful returns from standardised approaches is important. Eating the elephant in one sitting isn’t pragmatic. I’d advocate: ⚙️digitisation of platforms to enable automation. 🚿cleanse-categorise data silos-all within an appropriately secure construct. 📨deliver use cases that are simple and provide value to many. 🪡use cases that are specific in industry settings such as Utilities will-should have working groups. Whilst fairly obvious points of view – I’m not seeing many organisations making significant headway against these points. So I guess don’t be deflated if you’re not there. You will find lot’s of folk in your organisation and outside who can help. To kick start I think the basic tenants go something like… 💰build a business case that delivers real organisational and stakeholder value - the use cases developed should be your early pin ups! 🧑🤝🧑garner organisational support, it’s critical. Help your teams come on the journey - avoid silos and make it a win for your people! 🏃💨make sure technology platforms and data are AI ready - this is a big deal towards the nirvana of AI in production. 🔄️streamline processes and governance to fit the evolving paradigm of your organisation and whom it serves. 🏆call it AI - call it GenAI - who cares if it's a win and takes you on the path towards your organisational aims it's ok (sorry to any purists but it helps the path to ongoing funding). 🌍🫂⚖️remember the social and environmental consequences - seed these into what you do. Always set out to be bold in your goal setting and be passionate this is where the magic 🪄✨🌟happens for your ecosystem. Good luck, be bold and be mindful of alchemists 🍀 Business AI Alliance #AGI #AI #singlarity #keepitsimple #datarationalisation

Huge news from Cosine - selected by the UK Gov's Sovereign AI fund to be at the forefront of Sovereign AI capability - including being granted half-a-million GPU hours on the enormous Ismbard-AI on UK soil! I'm really enjoying working with the Cosine crew - their AI swarm based software development pipeline capability is not only incredibly powerful and and capable, but their unique strengths in legacy software languages and being able to be deployed completely disconnected/high-side, brings this opportunities to increase the pace, scale, accuracy and ability to deliver change in some of the most challenging environments. Congratulations to the whole Cosine team!

A new AI voice-cloning tool from a British firm claims to be able to reproduce a range of UK accents more accurately than some of its US and Chinese rivals. Because much of the data traditionally used to train AI products with voices comes from North American or southern English speaking sources, many artificial voices tend to sound similar. To combat this, the company Synthesia spent a year compiling its own database of UK voices with regional accents, through recording people in studios and gathering online material. It used those to train a product called Express-Voice, which can clone a real person's voice or generate a synthetic voice. These can be used in content such as training videos, sales support and presentations. https://lnkd.in/gnWXuRKD #AI #voice #Britishregionalaccents

Nick McKeown is absolutely on the money in his report on building AI chip champions from the UK. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: I can think of no other industry where a few hundred talented people, moderate financial backing and enormous quantities of grit and ingenuity have the potential to produce a $100B company in a matter of years. We need to do this. The US AI Action Plan, published last month, sets out plans to use US-designed AI chips (read: essentially all AI chips deployed today) as the wedge to force "full stack AI exports" around the world. Without a globally leading answer on AI hardware, our aspirations to compete elsewhere in the AI stack - models and applications - are very much at risk too. The good news is, we have the talent and the drive to create the world's best AI chips from here. It's something we're already well underway on at Fractile, as mentioned in Nick's report 🚀. The first industry revolution was born in the UK. The world is going through another industrial revolution, and over the rest of the decade, the UK has genuine potential to secure its place in owning some of the most critical parts of the global AI infrastructure stack.

LINKEDIN AI BRIEF: 1st JANUARY 2026 (MORNING EDITION) Today’s AI Brief covers the UK’s AI infrastructure challenges, California’s new AI disaster law, and Google’s Gemini 3 Flash launch. UK AI Infrastructure Buildout Faces Grid Delays One year after Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s plan to make the UK an “AI superpower,” progress is mixed. Four AI growth zones have been unveiled, but they face 8-10 year grid connection delays. Nvidia, Microsoft, and Google have committed billions to UK AI infrastructure, but energy access is heavily restricted. The UK has the costliest energy in Europe, 75% higher than before the Ukraine war. The Oxfordshire AI growth zone, announced in February, still has no building work. One expert warns the UK risks becoming an “international AI backwater.” https://cnb.cx/45sxfn1 California AI Disaster Law Takes Effect Today California’s new AI law (SB 53) takes effect today, requiring Big Tech companies to disclose their AI disaster prevention plans. The law gives whistleblower protections to AI safety employees at Google, OpenAI, and other firms. Companies must publish safety frameworks and report critical incidents within 15 days, with fines up to $1 million per violation. The law defines catastrophic risk as an AI incident causing 50+ deaths, $1 billion+ in damage, or loss of AI control. The California law has already influenced New York’s AI legislation, which will be rewritten to align with it. Stanford research shows only 3 of 13 major AI companies regularly conduct incident reports. https://bit.ly/3MYsviQ Google Launches Gemini 3 Flash with Video Verification Google has launched Gemini 3 Flash as the default model in its Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. The release includes new video verification tools that can detect AI-generated content using imperceptible SynthID watermarks. Users can upload videos up to 100MB or 90 seconds to check if they were created with Google’s AI. Gemini 3 Pro has also been expanded to AI Mode in 120 countries. Other updates include live speech translation in 70+ languages in the Google Translate app and a new GenTabs experiment that synthesizes open browser tabs into custom web applications. https://bit.ly/4qCYSCm Insight Today’s developments highlight a growing divergence in the AI landscape. While the UK’s ambitious infrastructure plans are stalled by practical realities, California is moving aggressively on the regulatory front, setting a new standard for AI safety and transparency. Google’s launch of Gemini 3 Flash with built-in verification tools shows the industry is also responding to the need for greater trust and safety. The UK’s struggle to keep pace with its own ambitions serves as a cautionary tale: a successful AI strategy requires not just vision, but also a realistic plan for execution.

I was very pleased to attend the Quantum Roundtable hosted by Tony Blair Institute for Global Change following the launch of their new quantum policy paper. It was a privilege to contribute to the discussion: “How can the UK turn its world-class quantum research into commercial advantage?” While there are still big challenges on the road to fault-tolerant quantum computing (which our EdenBase Quantum Fund is investing in), the consensus in the room was clear — it’s time to focus even more on applications. That’s music to our ears! We recently launched QBase , an applications hub for quantum computing in the heart of the City of London’s business district. A place where “quantum-curious” corporates can learn and explore practical quantum methods relevant to their industry, and prepare to be ready to take future quantum advantage. Thank you to the TBI team for leaning-in on this vital topic and for inviting us to feed in to the paper and roundtable. Exciting times ahead for the UK quantum ecosystem! The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed new regulations for Google's search practices, potentially designating the company with 'strategic market status' (SMS). This move aims to create a more competitive and innovative market by addressing several concerns identified in an antitrust investigation launched earlier this year. The CMA's investigation has highlighted issues such as the high cost of search advertising, lack of transparency in ranking search results, and Google's extensive access to websites and historical searches. Additionally, the investigation has raised questions about fair terms and control for publishers over their content's use in search and AI-generated summaries. If the SMS designation is approved, the CMA plans to implement several 'early priorities,' including requiring choice screens for users to access different search providers, ensuring fair ranking principles for businesses, and providing more transparency and control for publishers. The CMA also aims to support innovation by making consumer search data more portable. Sarah Cardell, Chief Executive of the CMA, emphasized that these targeted actions would give UK businesses and consumers more choice and control over their interactions with Google's search services. The final decision on the SMS designation is expected by October 13. This proposal does not imply that Google has engaged in anti-competitive actions but reflects the CMA's efforts to foster a more open and competitive market. Interested parties can provide their views on the proposal directly to the CMA. #Google #CMA #Regulation #TechNews #Innovation #Competition https://dub.sh/fxVT26r

I am looking forward to joining EnterpriseTech.London Monthly at the London Stock Exchange on February 25th for a conversation that goes beyond the current #AI hype. While AI is the investment story of the moment, the real story for 2026 is the convergence of "Frontier Tech." We are seeing an incredible shift with first commercial use cases of #Quantum technologies and deployment of the next generation of Quantum-AI at scale. Here is just one example from our portfolio company Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) https://lnkd.in/evAnRNc7 I’ll be joining an excellent panel to discuss how we at Quantum Exponential work with our strategic partners like Harwell Science and Innovation Campus to identify, fund, and support quantum businesses with the potential to transform industries and deliver long-term economic impact. If you’re interested in where the intersection of bits, qubits, and space is heading, I hope to see you there. Are we in an information based economy? Is AI still part of that? Based on what I can see it is, and devaluing content by stripping content of its copyright protections AND business model seems like a bad idea to me. There is value to information.
