Phil Alcock reposted thisPhil Alcock reposted thisWe’re pleased to be partnering with L&G - DC & Workplace Savings on the launch of their new cash savings platform for eligible DC pension scheme members. The backdrop is clear. 👉 22% of retirees have taken, or would consider taking, a pension lump sum to move it into a current account or cash ISA. 👉 80% of DC members say they would value a dedicated platform to help them compare savings options Many savers are holding significant cash balances, but confidence and simplicity remain barriers to action. Through this partnership, eligible members can access a curated range of competitive, FSCS-protected savings products from 40+ UK-registered banks via L&G’s app and website, before completing their application through Raisin UK. It’s a practical step towards helping members make more informed decisions about their short and medium-term savings, alongside their long-term retirement planning. We’re proud to support L&G in extending the range of solutions available to their members. https://lnkd.in/epZ_sDvZ

Phil Alcock liked thisPhil Alcock liked this🥶 Chelsea Now Employ Both Sides of Football’s Strangest IP Story Morgan Rogers created the celebration. Cole Palmer made it famous. Now they both play for Chelsea. And that creates a commercial opportunity that is much more interesting than a debate over who “owns” the celebration. 🥶 The Originator vs The Brand The story starts in December 2023. Morgan Rogers performed the now-famous “cold” celebration while playing for Middlesbrough. Days later, Cole Palmer copied his friend’s celebration. Palmer now openly admits: “He did it first, but I made it famous.” And commercially, that distinction matters. ™️ Palmer Protected the Asset Palmer has since built an IP portfolio around his identity, including protection relating to: • “Cold Palmer” • his name • his autograph • his celebration The celebration became synonymous with Palmer because he had something Rogers didn’t: Chelsea Social media Sponsors Rogers created the idea. Palmer scaled it. 🔵 Then Chelsea Changed the Equation This summer, Chelsea signed Rogers for £117m. Suddenly, the two most closely associated with one of football’s most recognisable celebrations are at the same club. And that creates possibilities. Imagine Palmer and Rogers scoring together at Stamford Bridge and performing the celebration simultaneously. Or Chelsea building campaigns around: 🥶 Palmer vs Rogers merchandise 🥶 celebration-led content Something that previously created an awkward question over ownership could now become more valuable. 📈 This Is What Modern Football Clubs Are Buying Chelsea didn’t spend £117m purely for Rogers’ goals and assists. Elite players increasingly bring several forms of value: Sporting performance. Audience Personality Narrative Intellectual property Commercial reach Put the right players together and those assets can become more valuable collectively than individually. That’s where this story becomes particularly interesting. 💡 The Finance Lesson Intangible assets don’t always compete. Sometimes combining them increases their value. Rogers provides authenticity: He created the celebration. Palmer provides recognition: He made it globally famous. Chelsea provides distribution: A global club, sponsors, merchandise, media channels and millions of supporters. Origin + Brand + Distribution. That’s potentially a much more valuable commercial proposition. 🔵 The Crux The joke is that Morgan Rogers created a celebration that Cole Palmer eventually trademarked. But Chelsea may have created something even better. They now control the platform on which both stories meet. Football clubs increasingly aren’t just assembling squads, but portfolios of personalities. The question isn’t whether Rogers or Palmer owns the “cold” celebration anymore. It’s how valuable Chelsea can make it with both of them. 🥶 What would you do with the Palmer × Rogers brand? #Chelsea #ColePalmer #MorganRogers #FootballFinance #SportsBusiness #IntellectualProperty

Phil Alcock liked thisPhil Alcock liked thisA man took a major gambling company to court over $2.3 million jackpot and won the lot, plus extra for his troubles. Andrew Green was a 54 year old from a small village in Lincolnshire England. Just after midnight he opened the Betfred app and started playing a blackjack game called Frankie Dettori's Magic Seven. He played for five and a half hours straight. When he finally stopped the screen showed £1,722,500.24 ($2.3 million) in winnings. He called Betfred. They congratulated him. Told him to call back after 9:30am to arrange collection. He went out that night and celebrated with his family, spending £2,500 ($3,600) on dinner. He was already a millionaire in his head. Monday morning he called back. They said the win was so large it needed to be sent to the game provider Playtech for verification. Standard procedure they said. Wednesday Betfred called again. Playtech had found a software glitch. The win was void and he would not be paid. Their offer was £60,000 ($82,000) but on one condition. He had to sign a non-disclosure agreement promising never to discuss what had happened. He said no. He sued and the case went to the High Court in London. The judge ruled Betfred's terms and conditions were not transparent and not fair. They could not rely on them to withhold payment. Three years after he won the money the court ordered Betfred to pay the full £1.7 MILLION ($2.3 million) plus interest. – Standing outside the High Court he said "The last three years have felt like hell on earth. I think Betfred have treated me abysmally." Betfred apologised for the delay. They never explained how many other players hit the same glitch and quietly accepted the counter offer.

Regulation gets blamed for tighter SME lending. But here’s another angle: 📊 Nearly 60% of SME founders abandon loan applications partway through the process, often because it feels overly complex or overwhelming (Source: Financial IT). Capital that’s hard to access becomes capital that goes unused. That’s why Lenkie focuses on fast, flexible access to funding, designed around how businesses actually operate.
