Morgan Blair Borer shared thisHonoured to moderate Monday's Female Innovation Index 2026 at Google HQ London. As Agata Leliwa Nowicka said to the crowd, “female founders are no longer experimenting with AI. They are embedding it at the core of their value creation. We are witnessing a generational shift in how women build, innovate, and scale across Europe.” Index data actually backs this up. • 1,307 European female-founded startups raised €7.5B across 1,376 deals in 2025. This is the highest amount in three years and a 19% increase from the €6.25B raised last year. • 86% of female founders are now leveraging AI in their businesses, up from 77% last year, according to the Female Innovation Index 2026 Survey. • Five European female-founded companies achieved unicorn status in 2025, bringing the total number of female-founded unicorns in Europe to 29, the highest ever recorded. Being in a room full of inspiring founders, funders, and leaders building the next generation of companies was totally energising. Morgan Blair Borer shared thisFemale-led founding teams in the U.K. received only about ~1.9 % of total UK venture capital funding in 2025. Studies show female founders are 31% less likely to secure early-stage funding than male founders, and when they do, they raise significantly less capital on average. We know there are structural biases affecting application success rates, investor networks, and confidence in female-led companies. Unless systemic changes are made, the number of funded female founders will remain disproportionately low. I'm looking forward to speaking at the Official Launch of the 2026 Edition of the Female Innovation Index, Europe's largest annual analysis on the funnel of innovation and funding driven by female entrepreneurs, taking place tomorrow at Google HQ in London! For many years, my focus was on trading volume, market launches, and navigating regulatory challenges that consumed my time and energy. As a founder, especially one at the forefront of innovation, advocating for our technology was a constant necessity. Creating the world’s first crypto payment company to address remittances, cross-border payments, mobile money, and FX across EMEA required immense effort. A decade ago, the concept of crypto was largely unknown. Five years ago, the term stablecoin was still taboo. Today, many leading financial institutions are actively trading crypto and stablecoins, launching their own products. I often found myself as the first to engage with regulators about crypto and digital currencies, including discussions with the Central Bank of Kenya in 2013, the Central Bank of Nigeria in 2014, the Bank of Ghana in 2015, and BCEAO in 2016. We lobbied numerous regulators, banks, and decision-makers across four continents. In the UK, we secured the first FCA license for a company utilizing blockchain settlement in their business model back in 2015. What does this look like in numbers? • An average of 50+ flights a year across some of the hardest regions to travel • At the peak, it meant sleeping on a plane 8 nights a month • 350+ major media features over the years - including The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, CNN, WIRED, Nasdaq, Forbes, American Banker and even Condé Nast and Glamour. • First Endeavor founder for Nigeria, World Economic Forum Chairperson, first crypto World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, Fast Company Most Innovative, first cohort of Bloomberg New Economy Catalyst CEO, Inspiring Workplaces, and more. • 85+ conversations (podcasts / interviews / video) - including London Fintech Podcast, CoinDesk #MoneyReimagined , Unchained, #JazzShapers , AFP Conversations, Africa Tech Radio, #aroundthecoin, #TheStartupLeap, and more. By that, I mean focused on personalities, company rivalries, and who's up or down. I think this bias is a holdover from an era where media business models were focused on eyeballs, which means headlines have to be sexy + include household names. But in the middle of this huge technology shift, the more important story is what's happening on the ground. How is AI actually changing people's work? Where is it useful? Where is it falling short? We're trying to do some of this at Every Inc. by writing in detail about our experiences with AI, but that's just one company's experience. Someone should be doing this reporting at scale. Is anyone?
