Hearing that little ones are going home and building their own forests out of cardboard boxes… honestly, that’s everything. Huge love to the whole team at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts for bringing this story to life with such magic, music, and creativity. Moving into 2025, we will continue to campaign for human rights to be upheld for ALL. Over the years, I’ve learned that building a strong Marketing Ops team is really about how people think. Here’s what I look for. 1️⃣ Systems thinking Can they see how everything connects — data, journeys, integrations, reporting — not just the task in front of them? 2️⃣ Curiosity The best people don’t just build what’s asked. They question it, improve it, and join the dots. 3️⃣ Commercial awareness It’s not just about getting campaigns out the door. It’s about understanding impact — pipeline, conversion, revenue. 4️⃣ Process discipline This is the unglamorous bit. But it’s what stops everything breaking three weeks later. 5️⃣ Ability to work across teams Marketing Ops sits between Marketing, Sales, Tech and Finance. If someone can’t collaborate, nothing scales. I can teach platforms. I can’t teach systems thinking or mindset. That’s what makes the difference. Debra Carty reacted on thisDebra Carty reacted on thisI can’t believe I am actually writing this one – Exactly one year ago today I stepped out of the corporate world and started my own consultancy. 365 Days Ago!! - where has the time went? At the time I was filled with excitement and dread in equal measure, I wasn’t entirely sure what the first year would look like. What I know now is that it’s been one of the most interesting and rewarding years of my career! In the last 12 months I’ve had the chance to work across brands, agencies and technology partners on everything from marketing operating models and campaign processes to MarTech strategy, leadership coaching and transformation programmes. But the real highlight has been the people. Old colleagues reconnecting after years apart. New clients willing to work in a different way. Partners opening doors and creating opportunities I’d never have expected. Personally, I’ve loved the freedom that comes with going solo! Working on things I genuinely enjoy. With people I respect. On problems where experience actually helps. I really wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who’s been part of the first year. Now, on to year two!!!
