Ben Riley reposted thisBen Riley reposted thisMeet Ben, our Lead Software Developer - and first hire after the founders. Ben joined us back in 2015, and over a decade later he's helped shape the platform into what it is today. Turning big ideas and customer feedback into features that make a real difference. From launching new functionality to constantly refining and streamlining how we build, he’s focused on helping us move further and faster. That drive to improve means we can deliver what customers need at pace – something Ben takes real pride in seeing out in the wild. As he puts it:“We offer a wider range of features than most competitors, and our growth – especially during a tough time for the industry – suggests we’re doing the right things for our customers.” Outside of work, Ben swaps code for countryside. He’s often out walking with his dog Luna, training for half marathons, cooking outdoors (when the Great British weather allows), or brewing his latest batch of beer – which the team is always happy to help taste-test. 🍺 Favourite pub: The Hop Shack, Horsforth. Great little Micropub 🍣 Favourite restaurant: Blue Sakura, Leeds – all you can eat Sushi! 🍻 Drink of choice: Hazy IPAs, especially anything from Verdant Brewing Co

Across every department, we have people who've spent years running busy, thriving venues. We’ve been in your shoes. We know how tech solves your problems. Here are a few of our hospitality pros and their experience 'in the trenches'. 🫶 Glenn Hooper (Sales & Onboarding) ran country pubs and restaurants for almost 20 years 🫶 Kelsey Warrilow (Product Owner) was a manager at True North Brew Co. for 9 years, working her way up to GM 🫶 Mark Bussey (Sales & Onboarding) was GM at Frankie & Benny's as well as a popular canalside bar & kitchen 🫶 Grzegorz Wojtowicz (Greg - Testing) managed The Alchemist in Leeds, and led training for Living Ventures Management Services 🫶 Shannon Bruce (Sales & Onboarding) came to us fresh from winning GM of the year at Arc Inspirations , for her work at Banyan, one of Leeds’s most prominent bars 🫶 Jonathan Grasty (Customer Support) managed restaurants for The Ivy Collection Not to mention the fact that our founders bought their very own London pub, so they could test and refine the technology, making sure it works not just on paper, but at the coalface. Ben Riley reposted thisBen Riley reposted thisWhy pay for expensive hardware all year if you only need it for a few sunny months? A handheld EPOS really shines in summer – think pop-up bars, al fresco dining, music festivals and so on… ☀️🤳💳 But if it’s gathering dust for the rest of the year, it's an unnecessary and unfair expense. That’s where our Mini EPOS comes in. It runs on any iPhone. No clunky kit, no contract. Just download the app and pay the license fee for the months you use it. If you no longer need it once the Great British weather ☔️ sends everyone back indoors, no worries. You can cancel any time, so you only pay for what you need. Ben Riley reposted thisBen Riley reposted thisNothing beats escaping the hustle and bustle with a stay in a grand old country pub ☺️ Which is why we’re excited about a couple of bits of news this week. Firstly, research by CGA by NIQ and Stay in a Pub showed cause for optimism for pubs with rooms. Their warm and friendly atmospheres, quality food and drink options, and connection to communities and heritage continue to attract visitors (though opportunities to appeal to more younger people provide food for thought). Also, Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks is launching a new project to breathe new life into Britain’s country pubs – starting right here in Yorkshire. His new venture Jeopardy Hospitality has taken on The General Tarleton at Knaresborough for their first mission – the 18th century coaching inn offers some fantastic opportunities for hospitality professionals looking for the next step. Britain’s unique country pubs are part of our fabric, and hopefully we’ll see more of them restored to their former glory up and down the country. #CountryPubs #UKPubs #PubsWithRooms

It didn’t feel like we had a whole load of add-ons that had been bolted together from third party sources.” Find out how our pub & bar EPOS helped RedWillow run their bars more effectively: https://lnkd.in/eetyYmGH #HospitalityEPOS #PubEPOS #BarEPOS #HospitalitySoftware

So when Adam Sheard, one of our Senior Developers, said he wanted to understand what a busy shift really feels like, we made it happen. Swapping code for cocktails, Adam spent the day behind the bar - seeing service from the other side and watching our EPOS in action during the rush. Huge thanks to the team at Roxy Leisure Ltd - Roxy Ball Room & Roxy Lanes for showing Adam the ropes 🍻 The question for bar managers though - would you hire Adam on this performance?

We could have just the place as is given it was only open 5 days ago, but we really wanted to put our stamp in it - a good clean, fresh lick of paint, refresh tables, new comfy seats and a fair bit more. There’s also the admin side - new company, bank account, licensing, staff, payment system, waste collection, etc.. All sorted in super quick time. To be honest, not quite sure how we’ve done it!

One month back at OpusRS – here’s what I’m seeing in the JavaScript contract market. It’s been great to get stuck back in, and I’ve already noticed some clear trends across the UK JavaScript contract space. 🏢 Hybrid working is shifting. Fully remote roles are becoming less common, with more contracts now asking for 2–3 days a week in the office. Collaboration and team presence are making a comeback. 💬 Contractors who know how to add value and communicate clearly with clients are being consistently extended. It’s not just about technical ability—commercial awareness and soft skills are making a real difference. 📉 Rates have taken a hit compared to a few years ago, but demand is still strong for those who can hit the ground running. ⚙️ Next.js is gaining serious traction. While React remains dominant with 39.5% of developers using it, Next.js is quickly rising with 17.9% adoption—thanks to its performance benefits and built-in features like server-side rendering and static site generation If you're a contractor looking for your next move, or a business needing top JavaScript talent, I’d love to connect. #JavaScript #NextJS #ReactJS #Contracting #TechRecruitment #OpusRS

One of my favourite features of voiceover for IOS and mac which I feel is often overlooked and certainly underRated is the ability to create specific voiceover configurations for various apps or scenarios. One example I would often use when working with various Deloitte clients was one I named testing which was in short a configuration I could fire up when speaking to test / dev / design teams with the speaking rate slowed down much more than I would generally do in every day scenarios. It's ideal if creating screen recordings to demonstrat either the accessibility or inaccessibility of a specific workflow or user journey. I feel this often brings those barriers which can be experienced to life far more than can be done simply by penning an accessibility report.

"You're not a junior anymore - but you're not quite 'senior' either. So what now?" That awkward space in the middle. Too experienced for junior roles. Not quite ticking all the boxes for senior. I speak to a lot of .NET devs who feel stuck in the "mid-level gap". Here's the reality - this is where you build influence: - Own small projects or features from end to end - Mentor others, even informally - Speak up in sprint reviews and planning - Learn to explain technical decisions clearly Hiring managers aren't just looking for strong coders at senior level - they want problem solvers who can shape direction. If you're in that gap and not sure what to focus on next, feel free to get in touch. #DotNet #SoftwareEngineering #CareerGrowth #TechCareers

Design Week • 1K followers
When you build and design a website, you should always consider what your image trade-offs are. On Design Week, for instance, we wanted super sharp, high rest images that were sized perfectly for the device so that we don't waste precious bandwidth on mobile devices, whilst someone on a 4k monitor gets a super detailed and perfect image because we believe that for the audience image quality probably matters more than performance. We can do this using an image cdn that can resize the original images to the perfect dimensions needed for each website. My colleague and front-end developer explains the techniques used to optimise for speed or quality and the trade-offs that exist there. I suspect this post won't get much attention because it doesn't really go down the LinkedIn path of "Here's an easy tip to get more business/be happier/be more successful" but it's here to show how attention to detail and understanding the client's business can matter a lot in web design and development and the two disciplines should always work closely together. We have never ever ever had a third party designer bring this subject up. But we do so internally. Different sites have different strategies in place. We often don't bother the clients with this sort of question and work it out for ourselves as part of the build process, because sometimes clients don't want you to ask about every single decision! https://lnkd.in/erdkPBTs

Seeing far fewer Frontend roles right now Spoke to an engineer yesterday who thinks this is partly due to how easy it is to prompt AI to generate HTML, CSS, and JavaScript using frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular Whats everyones thoughts? Surely this can't be the only reason for the decline in demand

Blazor United and the rise of full-stack .NET is something that’s been coming up more and more in conversations I’ve been having with .NET developers recently. A common theme I’m hearing is frustration around constantly needing to jump between backend C# and whichever JavaScript framework is currently in demand. Blazor United seems to be changing that conversation, with developers telling me they’re excited about being able to build across the full stack using .NET. The ability to combine server-side and WebAssembly rendering in one model is a big part of the appeal, along with improvements in performance, payload optimisation, and built-in security features. From a recruitment perspective, it feels like this could drive stronger demand for engineers who can deliver end-to-end solutions within the .NET ecosystem. Definitely one to watch as adoption grows. Do you agree? #DotNet #Blazor #FullStackDevelopment #TechHiring

💻 JavaScript hiring – a bit of insight into some industry trends 💻 LinkedIn is feeling a lot busier with JavaScript roles at the moment which is great to see. Echoing Ben Clarfelt's point in his previous post the LinkedIn apply system is not the best. A word of advice is to always follow up with the hiring or talent manager via a message expressing your interest. It really helps you to stand out from the crowd. Yesterday I took a look at 50 JavaScript roles to see if anything stood out and there’s several things worth highlighting: 📊 78% of JavaScript roles were working with TypeScript 💻 There were only two junior roles. We’re seeing an emphasis on mid and senior roles 🤖 A significant number of roles (46%) mentioning a want for experience with AI, or a willingness to integrate it into your workflow On the seniority point, are we seeing a shift away from junior roles because companies can now automate a lot of tasks with AI? Total breakdown of seniority was: ⭐10% Lead and Principal roles ⭐56% Senior roles ⭐30% Mid roles ⭐4% Junior roles This was only a sample of the latest 50 roles posted in the UK so not a thorough breakdown of the market. It’s interesting to see some pretty clear trends though.

I’ve been getting a lot of messages lately from candidates struggling to find roles (or even secure interviews) the truth is hiring for developers in PHP and JavaScript isn’t as in-demand as it used to be. Here’s some advice from what I’ve found to date, hopefully it helps at least one person land that perfect role! 1. An obvious one for some, communication You know how to write code but in interviews, your ability to explain how and why you made certain technical choices is just as important. Ensure you're prepared to walk through your past work clear and confidently. 2. Personal Projects Matter When competition is tight, showing a GitHub repo or side project, especially one that solves a real problem can set you apart. Employers love to see initiative, not just job history. 3. Tailor your CV Generic CVs with little or no info are more likely to be ignored. As much as possible, tailor each one to the job description with the tech stack and focus on what outcome you achieved. 4. Technical tests I know tests can be annoying, but unfortunately, it’s pretty standard for most roles, practice explaining your logic as you go and don’t hesitate to ask extra questions for clarity. There are opportunities out there but they’re going to the developers who put that extra effort into the application, pairing strong code with communication. Hope this helps 👨💻

PHP may not be the flashiest language, but it’s still powering essential infrastructure across high-growth sectors. Here are the top 3 industries I’ve noticed actively hiring PHP devs right now: 💳 Fintech – Recently boosted by significant private funding! They often offer the highest paying roles ($120K–$180K) for devs building secure, compliant financial systems. Plus, many legacy PHP systems need ongoing maintenance and upgrades. 🏥 Healthtech – Demand for PHP in patient portals, telehealth platforms, and EHR systems is rising fast. Post-COVID, more patients want remote consultations, driving the need for skilled software developers. 🛍️ E-commerce – Magento, WooCommerce, and custom platforms continue to drive steady demand, with many companies still opting for WordPress, Magento, and Shopify. Are there any industries I’ve missed? #PHP #WebDevelopment #TechHiring #Fintech #Healthtech #Ecommerce #Laravel #DeveloperJobs #2025Trends

The Creative Wales' Games Development Fund Creative Wales / Cymru Greadigol is taking steps to help grow the Welsh video games sector. The Creative Wales / Cymru Greadigol Games Development Fund has announced that 12 studios will share over £580,000 to help them develop innovative video games and immersive experiences for commercial release. The funding, offered at £10,000 to £50,000 per project, is aimed at bringing fresh gaming concepts to market. The programme encourages new creative concepts with robust market strategies, supporting businesses on their way to achieving self-sustaining growth. Recipients span the breadth of Wales, with successful applicants based in locations from Caernarfon to Pembrokeshire and with their content varying from quests set in the rural mountains, to virtual reality experiences and Welsh mythology-inspired adventures. This fund is part of a raft of initiatives Creative Wales offers the games industry, including the Scale Up Fund, which recently awarded £850,000 to 6 Welsh companies; supporting numerous studios to join a trade mission to the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco earlier this year, as well as another trade trip planned for next month to Slush 2025, in partnership with Games London.
