Great to see this publication today in the INCOSE Systems Engineering journal, marking the first journal publication of Synoptix's collaboration with Loughborough University/Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University. This paper outlines a research roadmap toward developing a truly effective and trustworthy AI assistant for Model-Based Systems Engineering. It explores how AI and automation can enhance and augment engineering workflows - accelerating the creation of consistent and complete models, improving the efficiency of model verification and validation, and supporting deeper comprehension and interpretation of complex models. It's been great to work with Wenheng Zhang, Michael Henshaw, Dr Paul Palmer and Siyuan Ji from Loughborough, and Peter Douglas CEng MIET MINCOSE and Joshua Olivier-Myall from Synoptix in this work. 🚨 Modernising GP Consultations with Alteryx and Gen AI 🚨 Anyone working in or around the NHS is acutely aware of the pressure on general practice and the system as a whole. Clinical time is scarce, administrative burden is high, and small inefficiencies after each consultation quickly compound at scale. NHS England's 10 Year Health Plan is clear that digital and AI-enabled transformation is a key enabler in addressing this. The question is not whether to use Generative AI, but how to deploy it safely, practically, and at scale. When I look at GenAI in the NHS, I see two broad deployment patterns: 1️⃣ Direct user interaction, where clinicians or staff prompt a GenAI tool (for example, using Microsoft Copilot to summarise text or draft content). 2️⃣ Embedded GenAI, where AI is built into repeatable workflows that run consistently in the background, with clear governance, auditability, and human oversight. In my view, the second approach is far better suited to clinical use cases. The short demo in this video shows what that looks like in practice. Using Alteryx 2025.1+, unstructured GP consultation notes are processed through a governed GenAI workflow to generate structured, reviewable follow-up actions for the patient. The goal is to enhance the patient's memory of information from the consultation, thereby reducing the likelihood of presenting back into primary or secondary care and, in turn, easing system-wide pressure. This is achieved by integrating GenAI into a structured, auditable workflow process rather than relying on spontaneous prompts. I’d be very interested to hear from: 🔵 GP practices or PCNs struggling with post-consultation admin overhead 🔵 ICBs or digital teams that are thinking about how to deploy GenAI safely in primary or secondary care 🔵 Anyone exploring governed alternatives to “prompt-and-pray” AI usage in the NHS What other clinical workflows do you think are well-suited to this kind of embedded GenAI approach? A very human illustration of demand for processing power. This is the registration line at #PTC26. Thousands of people, all converging at once, each with somewhere to be, something to access, and a limited window to do it. Queues form when demand spikes faster than systems are designed to absorb it; whether that’s people at a conference, data hitting a network, or AI workloads landing on infrastructure. The parallels aren’t perfect, but the signal is familiar. Capacity planning always looks easy… until everyone shows up at the same time. We’ve published a new technical white paper examining what it takes to deliver an HPC service under real-world operational constraints. Based on Alces Flight’s contribution to the 2025 Computing Insight UK Student Cluster Challenge, the paper focuses on end-to-end HPC service delivery. It covers bare-metal deployment and system validation, multi-user operation and workload scheduling, application enablement, and user access. Although delivered in an educational setting, the design of this challenge explored the same architectural and operational trade-offs seen in production environments. These include limited time, evolving requirements, unfamiliar hardware, and live users executing real workloads. It was great to see our new research report, Emerging technology behind the scenes of defence, covered in The Manufacturer this week. We surveyed #defence and #aerospace decision-makers to explore the challenges around keeping critical assets – tanks, warships and combat aircraft – mission ready in today’s increasingly complex threat landscape. 8-in-10 agreed that transforming their organisation’s approach to complex asset management is a key priority for 2025 – and two thirds said they were investing more in digital solutions, such as #AI, analytics and data management tech, this year compared to 2024.
