Graduate skills are crucial to Boeing’s future, so it was great to join Universities UK Future Jobs Roundtable recently. This brought business together with higher education leaders at Boeing’s long term funding partner University of Southampton as part of a UK-wide conversation about graduate employability and the country’s current and future skills needs. We discussed how universities can work more closely with employers to ensure graduates have the skills they need to succeed and support business to grow. I’m excited to continue this conversation. #FutureJobs

Universities across the UK are navigating some of the toughest financial challenges the sector has ever faced. 🎯 With the continued delivery of world-leading, high-quality courses a priority, the challenge is: how do we safeguard (and even enhance!) the student experience? 💡In this new opinion piece, Chair and Deputy Chair of the Quality Council Professor Nic Beech and Professor Clare Peddie provide an answer, exploring how the sector’s financial context could be an opportunity for transformation. Through 5 principles, Universities can focus on what matters most to students and designing more inclusive, efficient systems. Importantly, universities are already finding such opportunity. The piece explores how teams at Bangor University and Queen's University Belfast are building in efficiencies through inclusive design, preventing costly systemic issues and, ultimately, improving the student experience. 🔎Explore how to maintain and enhance quality in challenging times: https://lnkd.in/euHzBqgw

How can universities ensure they are delivering the graduate skills needed by employers in the future? Today, we partnered with Universities UK on their Future Jobs campaign to drive that conversation forward, bringing together business and education leaders from around the region. The roundtable event on Highfield Campus was one of a series taking place across the UK to gather insights into skills the economy will need in the coming years, with the discussions feeding into a national roadmap that will set out practical steps universities and employers can take to ensure the requirements of businesses are being met. Our thanks to all the leaders who contributed to such a positive and collaborative day, which provided valuable input towards tangible and practical recommendations to the sector, business and government policy as part of the wider Future Jobs initiative.

  • ✨ Thank you to everyone who joined us for our communications-focused conference, both in person and online. It was a day rich in insight, practical discussion and shared experience from across higher education and the media. • 🎓'The UK needs more, not less, highly skilled graduates' Professor Andy Long, FREng, Vice-Chancellor of Northumbria University, writes that the UK needs more graduates to drive economic growth and deliver on the Government's Industrial Strategy - and that social mobility must sit at the heart of that ambition. We too recognise that universities are essential for delivering a brighter future for the nation. This is why we have launched Future Universities, a commitment to ensuring universities play their part in the UK's future prosperity: strengthening regional economies, widening opportunity and developing the skilled graduates the country needs. Always a pleasure to speak at the Universities UK Marketing and Communications Conference, this time with Isha Rai, one of our social media ambassadors, in tow! 👋 We shared more about smarter social with a small team, how to make the most of limited resources, and that it’s okay to admit when a student can do something better! It was wonderful to be joined by Isha, a student who understands the fundamentals of content creation and produces great work for our team. She did a brilliant job and stepped out of her comfort zone to support the session. We received an audience question about how we incentivise students to work with us. While the main motive is that it's paid, real-life experience, it also comes down to the community we’ve built and the opportunities that come from being part of the group. Isha joining the conference is a great example of how we try our best nurture our social media ambassadors’ interests and provide opportunities to develop skills beyond just creating content. Thank you to Isha Rai for her support, Zahra Shahsavari and UUK team for the invite, Hannah Berry and Dane Vincent for a great panel discussion, and to everyone who engaged with the session.
