This month, Starbucks reached a significant milestone: 100 million climate-resilient coffee trees donated to farmers around the world. Nearly a decade in the making, this effort reflects the long-term commitment needed to protect the future of coffee. Our director of sustainability strategy & compliance for EMEA Adam Turner, highlights why this milestone matters:
At Starbucks we talk a lot about “the future of coffee.” This is what it actually looks like. Starbucks has now donated 100 million climate-resilient coffee trees to farmers—an effort that has been nearly a decade in the making. This is so much more than an eye-catching number. Coffee is increasingly exposed to climate stress—from rising temperatures to disease pressure—and many farmers are still working with aging or vulnerable trees. Replanting with stronger, research-backed varieties is one of the most practical ways to help secure both livelihoods and long-term supply chain resiliency. As a sustainability leader and a Starbucks partner, what matters to me is the system behind this: – long-term agronomy research (via our world-class innovation centre at Hacienda Alsacia Starbucks Coffee Farm, Costa Rica) – partnerships with organisations like Conservation International – and critically, combining coffee tree distribution with financing and farmer support. Because tree donation alone will not solve this problem—systems will. With another 50 million trees committed, the real test now is how we continue to scale impact. Proud to be part of a business investing in the future of coffee in a way that is grounded in science and partnership. From Andy’s coffee runs to Miranda Priestly’s famously exact Starbucks order, the Starbucks cup has long been an unspoken fashion accessory. Last week, #Starbucks UK debuted its fashion-inspired pop-up coffeehouse experience, The Coffee Edit, celebrating its new partnership with The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. Created with THE CIRKEL, the space brought together fashion insiders, alongside leading lady Vanessa Williams and the cast, for an exclusive performance. Guests also explored garments and accessories inspired by the film’s most iconic characters. Watch the video for a glimpse into the launch.
