How much can you learn from 36 years in speech-to-text? 🎙️ A lot, as it turns out. Our founder Dr Tony Robinson took to Reddit last week for a 24-hour AMA with Voice AI builders, sharing (almost) four decades of hard lessons on latency, pipelines, turn detection and where Voice AI actually breaks in production. 🔧 Swipe for our highlights 👉 Full article at the link. 👇

The best thing about building in Voice AI right now is the people doing it🎙 Last night, Speechmatics x Rasa brought together London's enterprise builders to work through the problems that don't resolve cleanly: the latency that erodes trust in AI conversations, the architecture decisions that separate auditable production systems from "prompt and pray," and what multi-turn interruption handling looks like under real conditions. Sam Sykes and Edgars Adamovics alongside Rod Rivera covered complex use cases and scenarios where a bad transcription has real consequences. The talks were great. The conversation that followed with our growing community was even was better. Speech-to-text that actually works in the real world. Not just in the benchmark. Most STT APIs are trained on clean audio. Your audio isn't clean. You've got: → Background noise → Overlapping speakers → Heavy accents → Bad cell connections Speechmatics was built for that. 55+ languages. Sub-second latency. Speaker-aware. Deploy anywhere. Where it works: 🏥 Medical – Medical Model cuts errors by 50% 🤖 Voice agents – Real-time, multilingual 📺 Media – Live captions that hold up 📞 Contact centers – Analytics at scale ⚖️ Legal – Courtroom accuracy 📝 Meetings – Automated notes, 55+ languages Security you can trust: 🔒 ISO 27001 | SOC 2 Type II | HIPAA | GDPR 🔒 No data logging as standard 🔒 Deploy cloud, on-prem, hybrid, or offline Trusted by enterprises for over 10 years. API access available today. 👉 Try Speechmatics: https://lnkd.in/gam-gHSR 👉 See Samples https://lnkd.in/gVajiSza And check out the product hunt launch here: https://lnkd.in/gxGKNuCU #VoiceAI #STT #SpeechRecognition #EnterpriseAI #Speechmatics

If you’re building voice AI agents in London, this is your last call to join us tonight 🚨 We’ll be joining forces with Rasa, talking about what it actually takes to make voice agents work in the real world. What we’ll get into: 🔊 Real-time ASR + agentic orchestration, and why latency matters more than most teams think 🔊 How teams are moving beyond “prompt and pray” towards more auditable, production-ready interactions 🔊 What it takes to build for higher-stakes environments like banking, telco, and healthcare 🔊 A live demo showing interruptions and complex conversational logic in real conditions 🔊 Honest + open discussions with people building these systems at scale 6pm at Speechmatics London HQ. Good conversation, live demos, and as always, 🍕 and drinks too. Space is limited: https://luma.com/tensquza #VoiceAI #ConversationalAI #AIagents #LondonTech

The field you're building in exists in part because of the work Tony Robinson 👀 One of the original innovators in speech tech, Tony was building neural net speech recognition at Cambridge in 1989, way before the benchmarks existed and any of this was a market. He went on to found Speechmatics, and has spent nearly four decades solving the hardest challenges in our space. Now you have a chance to pick his brains. Learn what he'd do differently, where he thinks #VoiceAI is really heading, ask him anything. Head to Reddit tomorrow: 27 March, 10:30 AM PST 👇
🚨 Upcoming AMA with Dr Tony Robinson (Founder Speechmatics) Excited to announce that Dr Tony Robinson will be joining Unio - The Voice AI Community powered by SLNG for a live AMA with builders & founders. If you’re building voice AI, you already know this: it works in demos… and breaks in production. Dr Tony has spent 36+ years in Voice AI, starting in 1989 at Cambridge where he built one of the earliest neural network based speech recognition systems, long before deep learning became mainstream. Today, Speechmatics powers voice AI across 50+ languages, with customers seeing 9x growth in voice agent adoption in 2025. 📅 Date: 27 March ⏰ Time: 10:30 AM PST / 11:00 PM IST 📍 Location: Reddit (r/VoiceAutomationAI) For the next 24 hours, he’ll be answering questions about: • What actually breaks in production voice AI (and how to fix it) • Accents, noise, latency & real-world edge cases • Designing reliable STT-LLM-TTS pipelines • Lessons from 35+ years building speech systems • Where voice AI is really heading (beyond the hype) • What he’d do differently if starting today If you're building in Voice AI, AI agents, or conversational automation, this is a rare opportunity to learn from someone who has been solving these problems for decades. Update :- AMA is Live Drop your questions👇 Link in the first comment.

Speechmatics has been around for over 20 years. We've spent that time building the most accurate speech-to-text API for real-world audio across 55+ languages, handling background noise, overlapping speakers, heavy accents, all of it. We never launched on Product Hunt. Until today. If you're building with Voice AI, or know someone who is, we'd love your support. We're also offering $50 free credits to anyone who wants to try the API. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eBR4znuR #VoiceAI #SpeechToText #ProductHunt #Developers

Lunch read 🍔📖: Most teams aren't short of solutions. They're short of good problem statements. 🧩 In his latest substack, Speechmatics' Tudor Evans makes a sharp case: that the problem space and the solution space are coupled. Frame the problem narrowly, and you automatically cap the quality of your solutions... before you've even started. A bridge example lands it well: "how do I build a bridge?" is a radically smaller solution space than "how do I reduce congestion across the Thames?" One of those might end up being a railway. It's a great read on why organisations consistently under-explore problem space, and what to do about it. Read it here 👇 #VoiceAI #ProductStrategy #Engineering
Finding the right solutions is hard. Finding the right problems to solve is even harder. Yet the quality of solutions available to us varies wildly as we move through the problem space. Despite that, we too often get stuck on the obvious solution to the obvious problem, underestimating the radical value of comprehensively exploring the problem space. We tell ourselves we've already done some brainstorming. We tell ourselves we're the experts. We somehow convince ourselves time and again - despite all evidence - that being more exploratory will not help. That the current solution is as good as can be. That we haven't missed a single morsel of information. We have a Panglossian belief that we're already in the best of all possible worlds. To which I say: poppycock! We can do so much better, if we're just willing to explore. In this week's substack, I write about the value of exploring problem space / solution space pairs, the psychological biases that mean we fail to do so, and how we can build mechanism to encourage exploration in our work.

Building an Arabic voice agent? Here are 5 things most builders underestimate. 🔊 Dialect range: A model trained on MSA won't hold up in Cairo, Riyadh, or Beirut. Egypt, Gulf, Levant each have different phonology, vocabulary, and pace. 🔊 Code-switching: MENA professionals switch between Arabic and English mid-sentence. A model that treats that as noise will miss most of what matters. 🔊 Custom vocabulary: Out-of-the-box accuracy is a floor. Brand names, drug names, regional shorthand are where generic models drop out. 🔊 Speed and accuracy: Getting the words wrong at speed just means failing faster. Both matter. 🔊 Diarisation: Multi-speaker is the norm in clinical and call centre settings. Your model needs to know whose voice matters before it can act on anything. Watch Yahia Abaza's full walkthrough of our new Arabic-English model and grab $200 in free credits via the video description. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gaciwTks #VoiceAI #Arabic #SpeechRecognition
