I built a voice agent in 1 hour to test out Deepgram with tapes.dev and saw inside its soul.md tapes is a proxy that captures every API call your voice agent makes. You see the full chain — speech-to-text, the #LLM reasoning, text-to-speech — with latency, tokens, and cost per turn. No SDKs to add, no logging to wire up. Just point your traffic through it. This was the precursor for persistent agent memory. It remembers my name and my fears. The observational memory layer is the foundation for a smarter agent overlord.
