Lots of our work revolves around neighbourhoods. We have shown that so many of the factors which most influence people’s outcomes, whether health, employment, or educational, are found in the neighbourhoods they live in. Working with 3ni: the national network for neighbourhood improvement and Local Trust we’ve shown statistically significant improvements in social capital in neighbourhoods with strong community working. A lunchtime well-spent, listening in to the Local Government Association’s Public Health Lunch & Learn series: today’s was all about #libraries! The session demonstrated that libraries can play a key role as part of an approach to prevention in public health. ‘The Power of Prevention: The economic and wellbeing impact of library activities’ has done the maths for us: library services can save the NHS money & deliver improvements in quality of life. Thank you to the LGA, Libraries Connected, Shared Intelligence & Frontier Economics for gathering the data & producing a toolkit to support library services in practice. I’m feeling inspired!
