Our May edition is live, and things are hotting up. Raspberry Pi founder and CEO Eben Upton spoke to the BBC this month, warning that overestimating AI's ability to replace tech workers could put people off pursuing careers in computing and hurt the wider economy. It is a timely and important message, and one worth sharing widely. Also this month, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan made headlines at AI Engineer Singapore after sharing the Raspberry Pi-powered agentic AI tool he built himself. Raspberry Pi trialled a smarter way to search its documentation. EDATEC-Industrial Raspberry Pi showed what Compute Module 5 can do on a demanding factory floor. Hellbender Inc. closed a $12.5 million seed round. And we launched a podcast. Over the coming months, we'll be attending the International Drone Show in Odense, Hardware Pioneers Max in London, and Automate in Chicago. Click the links in the newsletter to learn more or get in touch. Make sure to subscribe so future editions land straight in your feed.

🚀 .NET nanoFramework now supports Raspberry Pi Pico & Pico W We’re excited to announce official support for the Raspberry Pi RP2040 family, including: ✅ Raspberry Pi Pico ✅ Raspberry Pi Pico W (Wi‑Fi) This new port is built on ChibiOS, continuing to use a robust RTOS foundation for .NET nanoFramework on RP2040. 🔹 Write C# for microcontrollers and reuse code cross devices 🔹 Benefit from modern .NET APIs 🔹 Run on one of the most popular MCU platforms This is another step toward making .NET a first‑class citizen in embedded development, from makers to industrial solutions. 🙌 Huge thanks to the nanoFramework community, contributors, and the Raspberry Pi Foundation for their support! 👉 How to flash your Pico: https://lnkd.in/eVeVdBAB 🔗 Get started with .NET nanoFramework: https://lnkd.in/ePDJP7_B 👉 Documentation for supported features: https://lnkd.in/exjkbbKU 👉 ChibiOS: https://www.chibios.org/ 👉 Raspberry Pi Pico: https://lnkd.in/ekztqSzQ #dotnet #nanoframework #raspberrypi #rp2040 #embedded #iot #chibios #csharp
What happens when you pair the Raspberry Pi AI Camera with a large language model? You get a vision-language model running entirely at the edge. No video streamed to the cloud, no GDPR headache. Just structured on-device inference passed to an LLM, which turns it into plain-English insights. The use cases are genuinely compelling: - A smart home observer that tells you who (or what) is in the room - A retail shelf monitor flagging low stock in natural language - A factory floor watcher that alerts you if a worker is not wearing a high-vis Full tutorial here: https://lnkd.in/eRMyTUJD #RaspberryPi #EdgeAI #LLM #MachineLearning #ComputerVision #AICamera #Manufacturing #Automation
Is your product powered by a Raspberry Pi? Automate Show 2026 is just around the corner, and we're looking to connect with exhibitors who are showcasing products built on Raspberry Pi technology. If you're bringing something to the show floor that runs on Pi, we'd love to hear from you, whether it's a robotics system, an industrial HMI, an edge AI device, or anything in between. Fill in the quick form below and let's make sure we connect at the event: 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZGqzvkF Drop a comment or send me a message too. Always happy to chat about what people are building! #RaspberryPi #Automate2026 #Automation #EdgeComputing #EmbeddedSystems #Manufacturing

AI tools are “genuinely incredible”, Upton says, and he uses them regularly himself. But he warns against assuming they remove the need for human judgment, engineering skill or technical understanding." Listen now: https://lnkd.in/deBNRcC6
Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan took to the stage at AI Engineer Singapore to share the Raspberry Pi-powered agentic AI tool he built himself, because: “You cannot govern a technology you have only been briefed on.” Dr Balakrishnan explained that his most daily used agent is running off a Raspberry Pi and attests to its usefulness: "I can honestly tell you I have not dared to switch it off." "If your project has outgrown off-the-shelf development boards, Compute Module 5 gives you far more control over hardware design and deployment."
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 takes the full power of the Raspberry Pi 5 and turns it into a compact embedded platform built for real products. In our latest Product of the Week, we look at how the CM5 gives developers industrial-grade flexibility while keeping access to the full Raspberry Pi Linux ecosystem. Key features include: • Quad-core Cortex-A76 running at 2.4GHz • Configurable RAM from 2GB to 16GB • Optional eMMC storage up to 64GB • Optional wireless connectivity • PCIe Gen 2 support • Dual HDMI with 4K60 output • Dual MIPI interfaces for cameras and displays • Extensive GPIO with UART, I2C, SPI, and PWM support Unlike a standard Raspberry Pi board, the CM5 is designed for custom hardware integration. You build your own carrier board and design the exact system your application needs. This makes the CM5 ideal for: • Industrial automation • Robotics • Edge AI systems • Custom SBC designs • Commercial embedded products If your project has outgrown off-the-shelf development boards, the CM5 gives you far more control over hardware design and deployment. #ISE2026 had plenty of large-scale product launches, but some of the more interesting ideas were happening at the edge. In this article, Bob Snyder looks at why the Sharp Raspberry Pi Smart Display Module may have been one of the show’s more overlooked products and what it says about flexibility, embedded systems and lightweight AV applications moving forward. #AVtweeps | Sharp Business USA, Sharp Display Solutions Europe GmbH
Congratulations to our design partner Hellbender Inc. on closing a round of funding and the launch of their pi based products!
The giant salamander is officially emerging from the rock! 🦎 Hellbender has closed a $12.5 million seed round led by Magarac Venture Partners and Veredas Partners. We have been quietly building the foundational hardware for the next generation of autonomous systems right here in Pittsburgh. With this massive injection of capital, we are rapidly scaling our domestic manufacturing capabilities and bringing our physical AI platforms to the broader commercial market. Say goodbye to cloud latency and global supply chain bottlenecks. We are delivering unlocked, developer friendly edge compute directly to the physical world. We are putting this capital straight to work with the official launch of our new physical AI camera line: 📷 Hellbender Tadpole: Massive AI acceleration packed into a remarkably small footprint for custom OEM integration. 📷 Hellbender Stereo: Depth perception and native edge compute capable of operating in low light and feature poor environments. 📷 Hellbender Vine: A native API system that scales up to 64 cameras over hundreds of feet for massive distributed industrial monitoring. Pre-orders officially start in June! Check out the link in the comments to read the full press release. #Hellbender #PhysicalAI #EdgeComputing #Robotics #PittsburghTech #Manufacturing #VentureCapital #StartupGrowth #ComputerVision
