Insights from Paris: Shaping the Future of European Space Transportation Protolaunch attended the European Space Agency - ESA FLPP Spring Session at ESA HQ in Paris yesterday. It was an incredible opportunity to dive into ESA’s roadmap for evolving In-Space transportation. A key takeaway from the panel sessions was the clear alignment between ESA’s ISAM activities and the EU’s ISOS (In-Space Operations and Services) initiatives. This strategic synergy is perfectly aligned with Protolaunch's FOx-1 thruster, which is specifically designed to meet the dynamic movement demands of ISAM modules using green, high-performance propellants. FLPP programs such as FIRST! BEST! and In-SPoC are fantastic indicators of ESA’s ambition to push the boundaries of innovative propulsion. At Protolaunch, we are directly targeting future mission profiles with our propulsion products (FOx-1, Arctic Fox and Throttling Valves) which we are developing rapidly at our Propulsion Testing Facility. NSIP Project Kick-off! It's been an incredibly busy few weeks here at Protolaunch! We are thrilled to officially kick off our NSIP project with the UK Space Agency to develop a cutting-edge hybrid (chemical-electric) propulsion system that uses water as the common, sustainable propellant. As a part of this project, Protolaunch will undertake the rapid development and extensive qualification of our 20N Oxygen/Hydrogen Chemical Thruster, leveraging the full capability of our in-house Propulsion Testing Facility for a rigorous qualification campaign. Protolaunch secures funding from UK Space Agency to supercharge development of clean in-space satellite propulsion technology. Protolaunch is Tackling Europe's Throttling Needs! We are excited to announce a major new project focused on advancing European space capabilities: developing an advanced multivariable, closed-loop controller to achieve deep throttling for Liquid Rocket Engines (LREs). This technology is foundational for realising European goals for Reusable Launchers and autonomous Planetary Landers. This 24-month project is carried out under a programme of, and funded by, the European Space Agency - ESA’s General Support Technology Programme (GSTP). Want to work at a small, dynamic rocket startup? Protolaunch is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to design custom components for thrusters, valves and test rigs at their site in Westcott. The role primarily involves modelling and design of components as part of a small team, as well as liaising with suppliers and partners. Applicants should have CAD expertise and experience producing parts through milling, turning or additive manufacturing, though space sector experience is not required.
