📢 LATEST NEWS: ORE Catapult and Bladena launch full-scale testing of next generation blade reinforcement technology! With many of the first operational wind turbines approaching the end of the planned lifespans, there is a need to accelerate the development of new technology which could potentially help extend the life of turbine blades. Today we're announcing that we've signed an agreement with wind engineering specialist, Bladena ApS, which is part of RES, to test blade reinforcement technology designed to extend the operational life of offshore wind turbines. A full-scale testing programme - using bespoke test methodology - will see unique full-scale torsional load tests carried out on an 88-metre blade. The test would be first of its kind carried out at our National Renewable Energy Centre in Blyth, and understood to be an industry first. Findings could potentially guide industry-wide efforts to improve turbine reliability and reduce lifecycle costs. Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/eeBMU54T

📢 LATEST REPORT: Certifying Offshore Robotics: Building a Performance-Based Framework to Accelerate Adoption 💡 Robotic systems are increasingly being developed for the offshore renewable energy industry yet, despite growing technical capability and investment, adoption remains limited and uneven. We're currently facing the challenge of verifying whether a given system is ready to perform a specific task safely and reliably in offshore condition. This report proposes a Performance-Based Robotic Certification (PBRC) framework to overcome these barriers by providing a clear, structured pathway to validate task readiness. This report was delivered as part of the OLTER Project, as a collaboration between Net Zero Technology Centre, ORE Catapult, The National Robotarium, and the energy industry, funded by The Scottish Government under the recent Energy Transition Fund.
