Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 Sony Women in Technology Award with Nature. We are proud to recognize three exceptional women whose research is transforming medicine and advancing technological innovation with real-world impact: Zhen Xu is the pioneer of histotripsy, a non-invasive ultrasound therapy that mechanically destroys tumours using targeted microbubbles. Now FDA-approved and used to treat thousands of patients with liver cancer, her breakthrough is redefining surgery without incision, radiation or chemotherapy. Ellen Roche is developing next-generation medical technologies spanning soft robotics, cardiac devices and wearable neonatal sensors. Her translational research bridges engineering and clinical care, with a strong focus on improving cardiovascular outcomes and advancing women’s health. Xiwen Gong is advancing flexible electronics and quantum-dot technologies for wearable healthcare sensors and more stable next-generation solar cells. Her interdisciplinary work spans optoelectronics, energy materials and non-invasive neural interfaces. Each winner receives a $250,000 prize to support and accelerate their research. A big thank you to our partner Sony for championing women driving technological progress for society and the planet. Applications for the 2026 award are now open. If your research drives technological innovation with societal impact, apply by 29 May. Learn more about the winners: https://lnkd.in/eKhdUxuD #WomenInSTEM #WomenInTech #WomenInTechnologyAward
