How safe is the port-ship interface? Despite significant advances in technology, procedures, and safety management, the interface between vessels and ports remains one of the highest-risk areas of maritime operations. In this insightful article, Richard Steele, CEO of ICHCA International, explores the critical hazards that continue to contribute to serious incidents and fatalities across cargo handling and port operations, highlighting the importance of collaboration, risk awareness, and a proactive safety culture. Richard has spent more than two decades working to improve safety standards across the ports and cargo handling sector and continues to champion industry-wide knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Recent analysis from ICHCA's Severe Risks Dashboard shows that crush incidents, vehicle collisions, falls, and confined space hazards remain among the leading causes of fatalities in cargo operations, with around three-quarters of incidents occurring during cargo handling activities. Read the full article and discover why safety at the port-ship interface demands constant attention from everyone involved in maritime operations. https://lnkd.in/eGdApcfV #MaritimeSafety #Ports #Shipping #CargoHandling #PortOperations #SafetyCulture #RiskManagement #ICHCA #MaritimeIndustry #HealthAndSafety
