Last Tuesday Grzesiek Wierzchanowski and I headed over to the LeadDev Meetup Berlin to talk about something we've been dealing with a lot lately: "Reverse-Engineering Reality." We shared how we’re using AI to turn 20+ year-old codebases into documentation that actually captures all the product features, including tricky edge cases. It’s not just about cleaning up old code; it's about making sure the logic stays intact while we modernise. Huge thanks to the LeadDev Berlin team for having us, with a special shout-out to Ferit Topcu and to everyone who showed up! It was great to chat with so many people facing the same challenges. #LeadDev #BerlinTech #SoftwareEngineering #AI #LegacyCode

Last evening at LeadDev Berlin meetup hosted by Zalando offered a much-needed moment to step back and look at how we are collectively navigating the AI landscape. It was inspiring to network with fellow Engineering/Tech leaders and realize that while our products differ, many of our challenges in leading through this transition are shared. The sessions were packed with insights, however José San Gil’s talk on leading through AI stood out most. His framework for scaling adoption is incredibly relatable; in my own teams, we are already experimenting with available tools, so his focus on leveraging early adopters and finding those "magic moments" resonated deeply. We also explored how AI is being used for high-scale product catalog generation. While the efficiency gains are undeniable, it sparked an interesting internal debate for me regarding AI transparency. I believe as we push the boundaries of what AI can generate, maintaining clear communication about where and how AI is used remains a vital part of building long-term trust. My Key Takeaways: -> Empower Early Adopters: Leverage the "AI champions" in your team to drive organic experimentation. -> Solve for Friction: Focus AI tools where they hit the biggest bottlenecks—specifically documentation and technical debt. -> Stay Human-Centric: Use AI to reduce the "noise" so teams can focus on the magic of building and problem-solving. Looking forward to implementing some of these perspectives as we continue to evolve our engineering culture and product strategy. #Leadership #TechLeadership #AI #EngineeringExcellence #Innovation #Networking

Everyone’s a developer now… apparently 👀 AI has made it easier than ever for non-engineers to build, prototype, and ship ideas. Which sounds great… until your team is suddenly dealing with: • risky production changes • unclear ownership • unrealistic expectations • and a growing list of “quick requests” That’s exactly what we’re digging into in this Thursday’s panel with Storyblok: 👉 What to do when everyone thinks they’re a developer We’ll cover: • how “vibe coding” is changing who can build what • setting guardrails without becoming a blocker • managing expectations across the business • protecting your team’s focus while keeping collaboration open If this is already happening in your org (or you can see it coming), this is one to catch live. 🗓️ Thursday, March 26 🎟️ Free to attend Save your spot before it fills up 👇 https://lnkd.in/eyYBKv3z

Slightly terrified, but also delighted to be able to jump out of my comfort zone and speak at LDX3 London 2026 in June! Come see what happens when I try to talk about football at a Tech conference 😀⚽ https://lnkd.in/eCDCjEuq

I will be speaking at LDX3 (LeadDev) in London on June 2nd and 3rd, 2026. https://lnkd.in/erPvWrwi My talk, titled "What does a CTO even do?", aims to explore the challenges of progression frameworks and the diverse paths leaders take. We will examine how to learn from those who have reached the CTO or VP level to identify gaps in our own skillsets and experiences. In the early stages of our careers, we often receive opportunities to step into management roles. However, as we advance, the stakes increase, and the risk of a bad hire becomes a concern that may act to slow your career growth. This talk will provide a framework to help reverse engineer the path necessary for success in these roles (look at me, sounding like an influencer). If you're attending #LDX3 / #LeadDev in London, I'm happy to meet and I welcome any questions after the talk.
