A decisive step toward European commercial fusion power. Proxima CEO Francesco Sciortino signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dr. Markus Söder, Markus Blume, Hubert Aiwanger, Markus Krebber, and Sibylle Günter at the Bavarian State Chancellery this morning, aligning on a concrete path to building the first commercial stellarator fusion power plant, Stellaris. The roadmap is clear: our net energy gain demonstration stellarator, Alpha, will be built in Garching near Munich, next to the IPP, while Stellaris will subsequently be built at the former power plant site in Gundremmingen. By linking scientific leadership, industrial expertise, and public commitment, this cooperation between RWE, the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP), and Freistaat Bayern lays the foundation for a new European fusion ecosystem – strengthening energy sovereignty, creating economic opportunities, and opening the door to a world powered by safe, clean, and abundant fusion energy. Fusion is moving from the lab to the grid in Europe. 🇪🇺⚡ Read more: https://lnkd.in/deCUdvK4

  • Last night, the founders in our Balderton Launched accelerator took to the stage to present what they’ve been building over the past six months. Balderton Launched is our free, six-month co-working programme for entrepreneurs at the start of their journey - creating an environment where founders can collaborate and build alongside a community of peers. Huge congratulations to all of the teams who pitched last night. We’re looking forward to see where you take it next! • A huge milestone for Wayve today. $1.5B in new funding. $8.6B valuation. And, most importantly, the shift from research leadership to scaled commercial deployment. Wayve has spent nearly a decade pioneering end-to-end embodied AI for autonomous driving, turning a bold research vision into a global autonomy platform. To understand how it all began and where it’s heading next, listen to James Wise in conversation with founder Alex Kendall on What’s Next, covering his early ambition for Wayve, the founding story, why building in the UK was an advantage, and what he sees coming over the next 10 years. https://lnkd.in/eyATx8JM

🚗 Huge congratulations to the entire Wayve team on raising $1.5B! We’ve been proud to support Alex Kendall and the team since the early days, supporting a bold vision for embodied AI. As Suranga Chandratillake has often said, what makes Wayve exceptional is not just the technical ambition, but the team’s ability to take breakthrough research out of the lab and deploy it in complex, real-world driving environments. From a small lab in Cambridge to a global leader in autonomous driving, Wayve represents European innovation at its very best. We’re excited to see their continued growth!

Today, Wayve secured $1.5B USD to deploy our global autonomy platform. This milestone reflects a broader shift toward end-to-end AI as a scalable path to autonomy, aligning leading technology companies, global automakers and mobility partners behind a unified autonomy platform. In 2017, we pioneered AV2.0 when it was widely dismissed. Today, we’ve demonstrated zero-shot autonomy across 500+ cities using a single foundation model, showing autonomy can work everywhere, in every condition, across every type of vehicle. That’s what makes Wayve different. Our Series D funding allows us to scale what already works, bringing embodied AI to personally owned vehicles and robotaxis, at the same time. That’s the future we’re building. Thank you to our investors and partners for backing this vision: Eclipse, Balderton, SoftBank Group Corp., Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Baillie Gifford, British Business Bank, Icehouse Ventures and Schroders Capital, alongside participation from Microsoft, NVIDIA, Uber, Mercedes-Benz AG, Nissan Motor Corporation and Stellantis. Autonomy for anyone, in any vehicle, anywhere. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eTJCwg7A

  • We were delighted to host a private event at Munich Security Conference last week, where Rana Yared moderated a discussion with Hillary Clinton, Former US Secretary of State, alongside Gianni Cuozzo (Exein), Francesco Sciortino (Proxima Fusion) and Florian Seibel (Quantum Systems). The conversation highlighted the important role that innovation and entrepreneurship can play in strengthening Europe’s security and resilience. Thank you to all who joined us.

🇪🇺 Innovation is driving a new future for European security Last week, it was an honor to welcome a select group of entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors, and operators to Balderton's private event at Munich Security Conference. A special thank you to our panelists for an insightful and passionate discussion about the role of entrepreneurship in building a secure future for Europe: Hillary Clinton, Former US Secretary of State Gianni Cuozzo, Founder and CEO of Exein Francesco Sciortino, Founder and CEO of Proxima Fusion Florian Seibel, Co-founder and co-CEO of Quantum Systems Throughout the conversation one thing became clear: Europe’s security challenge won’t be solved by tinkering at the edges. It’s about taking big, bold bets that rethink the entire system - whether that’s in energy, defence or cyber. Entrepreneurs are at the centre of this drive, and Europe has all the ingredients to deliver: talent, capital, maturity and entrepreneurial spirit. Now is the time to seize this opportunity and shape our future.

The ground domain starts here. Meet MANDRILL, the first member of a new Family of Ground Systems by Quantum Systems. Modular. Autonomous. Purpose-built for defense and disaster response, and fully connected to the ecosystem that already links our aerial platforms. MANDRILL combines a top speed of 100 km/h with up to 200 km of electric range, while maintaining a low visual and acoustic signature. It can be reconfigured in the field from ISR to medevac to drone deployment, and operates autonomously day or night, with or without GPS. Built to NATO standards, it is coalition-ready from day one. The sky was the starting point. The ground comes next. #QuantumSystems #TheFutureIsUnmanned #MANDRILL

  • Last week, Greta Anderson spoke at the London Finovate Conference about the importance of responsible AI adoption in financial services. “There is massive diversity in the market in the state of acceptance of AI, and risk taking within fintechs. That means there is no one-size-fits-all solution, instead platforms need to adapt to different organisations.” She also noted that “the level of autonomy that AI is being given is a sliding scale,” reinforcing that responsible deployment requires strong governance frameworks. As AI adoption accelerates, institutions are moving at different speeds, shaped by their governance frameworks, risk appetite and organisational maturity. For fintechs, building trust, transparency and governance into their platforms from day one will be critical to long-term success. Thank you to Finovate and the fellow panellists for an engaging conversation on responsible AI in financial services.
