Aztec Weekly Recap for the week of May 29, 2026: - Aztec Labs acquired ZKPassport, the team behind technology that lets anyone prove age, nationality, or sanctions status from a government ID without uploading personal data to any server. No data stored, no data leaked. Supported in 130+ countries. Full story here: https://lnkd.in/gxfwvaFm - Santiment AG's latest GitHub activity rankings place Aztec at #1 across all L2s for developer activity, ahead of Starknet and Optimism. - New educational content on YouTube: Every account on Aztec is a smart contract. No EOAs, no bolt-on abstraction. Authentication runs on the user's device, meaning a multi-sig costs the sequencer the same as a single signature. Technical Educator Ciara Nightingale breaks it all down in a new video: https://lnkd.in/gf6wdry8 - David Steinrueck published "The Aztec Stack", a comprehensive guide to how Aztec delivers full end-to-end programmable privacy across identity, data, and compute via privacy-preserving smart contracts on Ethereum. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gySwtnz4 - Our weekly Privacy Session featured Aztec Foundation CTO Michael Connor as he walked through the 10 privacy features Ethereum developers want most per PSE's recent interview, and how all of them are already live on Aztec today. - Nyx launches v2: Nyx, a private account on Aztec governed by your Ethereum account, launched v2 this week. Private transfers, private yield, live on mainnet. Prove what's required. Reveal nothing else. 🔐 ZKPassport is joining Aztec Labs but the mission remains the same. 130+ countries, zero data uploaded, zero data stored. This is privacy that works in the real world. Read more about the acquisition on the Aztec Labs blog: https://lnkd.in/gXH9DYZb
We are excited to announce that Aztec Labs has acquired Obsidion, the team behind ZKPassport. ZKPassport lets users prove age, nationality, sanctions status, and proof of humanity without uploading personal data to any central server. Personal data never leaves a user’s device, as all processing happens locally. The verification model most products rely on today continues to fail. Hundreds of data breaches in 2026 have already exposed the data of nearly 140 million people. Regulations are pushing platforms toward stricter identity checks online. Those two forces are on a collision course, and identity storage on a centralised server is not the answer. ZKPassport has been solving this in production for two years. - More than 17,000 people used ZKPassport to verify nationality and sanctions compliance during the Aztec Network token sale. - Hundreds of attendees across 11 Latin American countries used ZKPassport at Devconnect. - Provided sybil resistance for Aztec testnet validator set. - Supports NFC chips from government IDs in over 130 countries. The entire Obsidion team, including co-founders Michael Elliot and Théo Madzou, joins Aztec Labs, and the ZKPassport protocol and mobile app will remain open source. Aztec Labs will be adding resources and product scope to the ZKPassport product to make private identity verification the default.

Noir, Aztec's open-source ZK programming language, is the easiest way to build privacy-preserving apps. Because it works seamlessly with many different proving backends, it is flexible to be integrated into existing apps that already utilize a variety of cryptographic systems. An example of this flexibility: ZK circuits written in Noir are now appearing in EU Digital Identity Wallet libraries — one of the largest digital identity initiatives in the world. The EUDIW was designed to keep personal data on-device, disclosed only when a user chooses. Zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs take that further: users prove identity statements without exposing their underlying personal data, thus reducing the ability to link individually-identifiable details, and keeping disclosure of personal information local to their own device. Noir is now contributing to infrastructure that will reach across the EU and beyond. This is what open-source ZK tooling looks like at scale. Follow our page to stay up to date on the Aztec Network, Noir, and how we're bringing the vision of simplified ZK privacy programs to reality. EUDIW library: https://lnkd.in/dtJYVEnP

Our team set out to build blockchain infrastructure with privacy at its core. Today, that network is live. Aztec Network’s Alpha mainnet launches today as the first Layer 2 with a complete execution environment for private smart contracts. Private data, private identity, private compute, all native to the protocol. This is a game changer, particularly for institutions. Transparent chains have kept enterprises off blockchain infrastructure because sensitive data has no way to stay private. Existing privacy solutions bolt on top of that problem, but don’t fundamentally solve it. Aztec builds privacy into every layer, with compliance controls that let institutions define exactly what gets disclosed and to whom. The network runs on thousands of sequencers and provers worldwide, rather than being operated by Aztec Labs or the Aztec Foundation. A unanimous community vote brought it live today. Alpha is a feature-complete privacy stack. The infrastructure is decentralized. The network is now open for everyone. $AZTEC is the ticker. What we saw in privacy season in 2025 wasn’t the peak, it was just the tip of the iceberg. There’s an arms race for privacy underway and Aztec is built to win it. Aztec has single-handedly built the modern privacy stack used by every team building with privacy today. For too long, blockchain was constrained by enforced transparency. That era is over. Privacy is now a requirement for real-world apps, institutions, and global adoption, and the infrastructure to support it is here. Programmable privacy will unlock a renaissance in onchain adoption.
