“The global aircraft backlog isn’t just a logistics issue – it’s a maths problem,” says Stephen Beecher CEng, senior sector engagement manager for aerospace at the AMRC. ✈️ To clear tens of thousands of orders while meeting non-negotiable net-zero mandates, the industry must shift from manual craftsmanship to high-rate automation. In his latest piece, Stephen highlights how our new COMPASS innovation facility is solving that equation: • Speed: Slashing production times for large-scale composite parts from 40 hours to just four • Scale: Home to advanced technology, including the world’s largest RTM press for aerostructures • Digital-first: Utilising digital twins to ensure right-first-time precision • Open access: A low-risk sandbox for the entire supply chain to plug into top-tier tech without heavy capital investment. As we look toward the grand opening of the facility later this year, the message to the UK manufacturing sector is simple: the machines are live, the data is flowing and the blueprint for the next century of aerospace is ready. COMPASS is no longer a project of the future; it is where the future of manufacturing is being delivered today. Read the full insight here: https://lnkd.in/eAcepGj3

"If this truly is a generational opportunity, what will determine whether the UK captures or misses it?" AMRC CEO Ben Morgan spoke to Jonny Williamson about the UK's strengths and assets in the global race for advanced manufacturing capability. From driving cutting-edge research and transforming processes, to supporting the adoption and diffusion of technology, the AMRC is building on the UK's manufacturing heritage, with its vibrant innovation and technology ecosystem, to compete in the global market. 'The sectors we’re working in operate in decades – new facilities, new supply chains, new technologies. These industries need confidence that Britain is a good place to invest and grow a manufacturing business.' You can read more in the link below 👇

It was a pleasure to sit down with Jonny Williamson and chat all things manufacturing last week🔧 I passionately believe we have a once in a generation opportunity in the engineering and manufacturing space, but it's going to take greater co-ordination and more than ever, working at pace. Thanks to the awesome Katia Harston for your support too. AMRC The University of Sheffield High Value Manufacturing Catapult Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) https://lnkd.in/eZNsxvbA

I’m incredibly honoured to share that I’ve been appointed permanent Chief Executive Officer of The University of Sheffield AMRC 😃 Seventeen years ago, I joined the AMRC as a graduate project engineer. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working for and alongside outstanding colleagues through the Integrated Manufacturing Group and our wider research teams — and most recently serving as Interim CEO. The AMRC has spent the last 25 years bridging world-class research and industry to drive economic growth, create high-value jobs and strengthen UK manufacturing. It’s an organisation built on relationships — across industry, government, the High Value Manufacturing Catapult — and I’m fiercely proud to continue that mission, standing on the shoulders of giants. UK manufacturing faces a generational opportunity. With the momentum of the Goverment Industrial Strategy, the opening of COMPASS, and our 25th anniversary year ahead - 2026 promises to be pivotal! Most of all, I feel fortunate to lead an exceptional team who are passionate about changing lives through innovation many, of whom have been hugely personally supportive over the last year (or more!) - you know who you are! Sincerely, thank you.

The AMRC has signed a collaboration agreement with IPercept to advance CNC process monitoring and predictive maintenance. The partnership will see IPercept’s intelligent monitoring solutions deployed on selected CNC machines at the AMRC, using high-resolution data to detect mechanical degradation and process anomalies before they impact part quality or cause unplanned downtime. Professor Pete Crawforth, senior technical fellow at the AMRC, said: “Working with IPercept enables us to rigorously evaluate predictive maintenance strategies, quantify their impact and explore new avenues for applying this technology across digital and data-driven manufacturing.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eKqZnpAg
