While travelling to the UK (UK passport holder) my passport was lost. I travel back to the US on Saturday and I'm a green card holder.

Looking at prior questions ( UK to USA with Green Card and without passport) it seems legal to travel to the US with only a green card. The OP on that question was able to check with Gatwick ground services and get an email confirmation.

Would anyone have the contact details of the team in Heathrow that would be responsible for checking passport exemption status?

It would depend on your airline. Commented 2 days ago

The UK does not have routine exit control so that might not be a problem. Persuading the airline to allow you to board will be a challenge. It might be a little easier with a US airline. I don't know what a green card looks like. Is it a physical card? Does it have a photo? It might be worth asking the US embassy for advice. Commented 2 days ago

@badjohn: It is a physical plastic card with a photo and a MRZ similar to a passport. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_card Commented 2 days ago
  • @NateEldredge Thanks. So, the probability of success is more than I guessed but still I expect that it is below 100%. Commented 2 days ago
  • @NateEldredge I asked because the UK equivalent is no longer physical. Commented 2 days ago
