I will likely end up in a situation where I'll have a flight into SIN and another flight out of SIN on separate bookings, but I have some flexibility as to when the flight out of SIN will be. Both flights will be on Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines will generally allow checking luggage through in such a situation. What is the maximum connection time at SIN for which the airline will allow checking my bags through (i.e. so that I won't need to collect my bags and re-check them for the flight out)?

@Traveller Should probably ask SQ (Singapore Airlines) rather than SIN (the airport)jcaron– jcaron2026-01-30 00:25:26 +00:00Commented 2 days ago

I'm not sure the information is published or even if the rule is as simple and clear-cut as a single number of hours (it may very well depend on the combination of flights, taking into account how often each flight operates). If it is indeed a unique value it's probably around 24 hours. One option you can try is to search for the various combinations in your favorite flight search engines (as a connection on a single booking) and see which ones appear and which ones don't.jcaron– jcaron2026-01-30 00:28:39 +00:00Commented 2 days ago

I'm not sure what your "situation" is, but booking the itinerary as a single multi-city/open-jaw ticket would quite possibly be cheaper and let you through check your bags with a guaranteed connection.lambshaanxy– lambshaanxy2026-01-30 02:03:02 +00:00Commented 2 days ago

The situation is that my home airport is SIN, and I have trips to A and possibly B, but I can only be sure of my trip to B while I'm in A.Bernard– Bernard2026-01-30 18:14:07 +00:00Commented yesterday

Unfortunately, there is no such thing. While (in my experience) Star Alliance is quite good about checking bags through on separate tickets, they are in no way required to do so. The decisions and criteria involved are up to the individual check-in agent.
It's possible that Singapore Airlines has an internal policy or guideline for this, but it will not be published or binding.
You'll just have to take your chances, ask nicely at check-in and see what happens.

Ask nicely on the day of, ... but also book your flights with enough time between to collect and re-check your bag (and cross back through security) in case they say no.Roddy of the Frozen Peas– Roddy of the Frozen Peas2026-01-30 19:24:48 +00:00Commented yesterday
