With charging optimization, you can improve your battery health to make your battery last longer, or you can get the fastest possible charge for your device when you're short on time.
Important: All Pixel phones can charge with USB-C cables. Make sure to use a compatible USB-C cable, like the one that came with your Pixel phone.
- Use a wall outlet. Other power sources like laptops can sometimes charge slower.
- You can use your phone while it's charging, but to charge faster, limit usage.
- Use a power adapter that’s compatible with your Pixel phone like the Google 45W USB-C Power Charger or the Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W USB-C Fast Charger.

Use Extreme Charging Mode
Important:
- This feature is available on Pixel 11 and later devices.
- Extreme Charging Mode is available for charging only when the current battery charge is 50% or lower and until it's fully charged.
- For the best charging results, use a 30W or higher power adapter, depending on your Pixel phone.
- Your phone automatically manages any temperature changes and keeps your battery within normal range.
Turn Extreme Charging on or off
You can activate Extreme Charging through these entry points:
- From Quick Settings:
- From the top of your screen, swipe down.
- Tap Extreme Charging
Turn on.
Tip: Quick Setting tile is available after you activate the feature once.

Extreme Charging Mode
Turn on now.
- From the lock screen:
- When your Pixel phone is connected to a power source and your battery is at 50% or lower, a “Use Extreme Charging” button appears.
- On your lock screen, tap Use Extreme Charging.
Tips:
- If your phone reaches a high charge level or if you disconnect, Extreme Charging Mode automatically turns off.
- If Extreme Charging is active:
- The system temporarily pauses background activities such as apps updates.
- You’ll still receive calls, texts, and notifications.
How to use Charging optimization
You can make your battery last longer with Charging optimization. By learning your charging habits, your phone lessens the time it spends fully charged. You can also limit charging to 80%.
To turn on Charging optimization:
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Battery
Battery health
Charging optimization.
- Turn on Use charging optimization.
When you’ve turned it on, choose a setting:
- Adaptive Charging: To optimize battery health while charging to 100%, tap this option.
- This setting completes charging right before you typically unplug, so your phone isn’t at 100% for a long time. This can strain the battery long term.
- This feature needs about 14 days to learn your charging habits. If your charging habits become different like when you travel, Adaptive Charging may not turn on.
- When Adaptive Charging is turned on, a notification shows the time your battery will be fully charged.
- Limit to 80%: To prioritize the long-term health of your battery, tap this option.
- This setting is ideal if you usually end the day with some charge left.
- When you need longer battery life, turn this option off. Your phone then reaches a full 100% charge.
Tip: To keep its battery capacity readings accurate, your Pixel needs to fully charge at every 10th cycle. This applies even if you have the “Limit to 80%” option turned on. To finish the process, leave your phone plugged in for at least 30 minutes after the screen shows 100%. Learn more about the cycle count.
