Set up & manage backup payment methods

Depending on your country of residence and the products or services you use, you can set up one or more backup payment methods. These backup payment methods are used if your primary payment method can’t be charged, which can help prevent interruptions to your subscriptions.

For some Google products, you can set up a backup payment method. It'll be used if the primary method fails for any reason such as an expired credit card or insufficient funds.

Backup payment methods can be useful for ongoing subscriptions to help avoid interruptions in service.

Before you start

Before you set up a backup payment method, please note the following:

  • Not all payment methods can be used as a backup payment method.
  • When certain payment methods are set as the primary payment method, you can't set a backup payment method.
  • Bank accounts can't be used as an automatic payment method.
  • Digital banks aren't supported to get payouts.
