𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭. At Digital Underground Connect 2025 yesterday, more than 20 experts came together across four dynamic panels to explore the untapped potential of Singapore’s subsurface. The conversations underscored a clear vision: building a smarter, safer, and more sustainable city starts with understanding what’s underground. Strong public-private partnerships and reliable underground data are key to shaping an accurate digital twin of our underground spaces. By breaking down silos and sharing up-to-date information, we can transform buried infrastructure into a collective asset—supporting better decision-making, reducing risks, and unlocking new possibilities for urban innovation. Powerful ideas and partnerships emerged at #DUConnect2025—we’re just beginning to dig into the future.

Day 1 of GeoConnect Asia 2025, driving geospatial impacts across underground, land & sea to sky. Always great to catch-up with many like-minded and passionate geospatial practitioners and professionals. I’m always amazed by how small our eco-system is. Definitely looking forward to collaborating and deepening our connections on new projects and opportunities. Impossible not to be energised by the atmosphere at Geo Connect Asia Day 2. It has triggered memories of GIS98 at the NEC, doing data demos in MapInfo (v2.1) on the Ordnance Survey stand. The marketing budgets of ESRI, Intergraph, Autodesk, MapInfo etc were in full flow. It felt like a peak of something. In subsequent years the industry seemed to fall flat. The argument was won, as spatial capability became embedded in Microsoft and Oracle. Google Earth came as a scary new dawn for GI professionals. It is exciting now, to be immersed in a youthful buzz of new devices and methods for data capture, 3D and 4D data models, Digital Twins, modern data mining approaches for extracting insights automatically, guided construction vehicles that know where not to excavate... New brands abound, like the earliest mammals scampering around the prehistoric forest floor. It is good to be in absorb mode. A strong underpinning theme is, of course, the need for data standards and data verification. With so much data being generated and so much expectation around AI, the importance of understanding the quality of data becomes ever more critical.
