I'm looking for a book I read in late middle school/early high school. I'm currently a senior if that helps! I believe the genre would be sci-fi, due to the nature of the book. I also think the target audience would be middle school aged kids.

I remember the book cover having a green color on it, not solid green but like dark green accents.

The main character is a young girl; she's in either high school or middle school. She lives with her mom and dad. Her parents go missing early in the book. The girl has to survive on her own.

Eventually after surviving on her own for a while she gets caught, and someone kidnaps her and takes her to this weird room/space. Then her mom comes out and she's like the leader of this society where people live. She forced to live there, and lives with her mom, but something is just off the whole time.

They also have a school within this society. There's children and preschools, and homes with other families there. However something is off and wrong about this place/town, it's very dystopian. I also think during living here there were certain people who would leave the town to go fight the zombies/monsters. I also believe the main character snuck into where they got ready to go fight zombies.

Could it be In the After by Dimitria Lunetta, published in 2013?

Front cover of In the After

Amy Harris's life changed forever when They took over. Her parents—vanished. The government—obsolete. Societal structure—nonexistent. No one knows where They came from, but these vicious creatures have been rapidly devouring mankind since They appeared. With fierce survivor instincts, Amy manages to stay alive—and even rescues "Baby," a toddler who was left behind. After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope. On the surface, it appears to be a safe haven for survivors. But there are dark and twisted secrets lurking beneath that could have Amy and Baby paying with not only their freedom... but also their lives.

There's only a bit of green, but the sequel book, In the End has a bit more.
