Intel and Fortinet have announced a strategic collaboration to develop the Fortinet Security Processor 6 (SP6) ASIC, combining Fortinet’s security processor expertise with Intel’s semiconductor design, packaging and manufacturing capabilities.

Intel Joins Development Of Fortinet SP6 Chip

Fortinet has used purpose-built ASICs in its security products for more than two decades – the company said its collaboration with Intel will support its ASIC strategy while addressing the performance and efficiency requirements of security infrastructure.

The SP6 development will combine Fortinet’s security processor technology with Intel’s semiconductor and manufacturing capabilities. The companies said the resulting processor is intended to support increasingly complex security services and performance requirements across different applications, including AI-enabled and cost-sensitive infrastructure.

Beyond SP6, Intel and Fortinet said they will explore further opportunities across semiconductor technology, manufacturing and the infrastructure supporting future cybersecurity products. The collaboration is expected to support Fortinet’s long-term ASIC roadmap, including performance improvements and additional service capabilities, while increasing supply chain assurance and diversification for customers globally.
