🏞 From Forest to Finance: Tech's Promise to #LeaveNoFarmerBehind
In a world racing toward sustainable futures, the panel "From Forest to Finance: How Breakthrough Technologies Can Empower Farmers and Inspire Nature Investment" hit like a wake-up call. I left inspired, but also convicted. Economic progress can't afford to sideline #smallholderfarmers which constitute 85% to 90% of 450m farms in the Asia and Pacific, the backbone of global hub for smallholder agriculture.
This dialogue, featuring Ashish Gadnis, CEO of BanQu, Mark Sebastian, founder and CEO of Numat, and @Russell Smith, CEO of Rizome, illuminated a path forward: immutable blockchain for #carbon_tokenization across bamboo supply chains. @Carla Diaz Alvarez de Toledo, Director General of the Treasury and Financial Policy for Spain @Pietro Lazzeri ADB Governor for Switzerland and Head of the Economic Cooperation and Development Division, State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Switzerland.
Ashish's story caught the centered stage with real demo. He shared raw tales of "mama farmers"—those resilient women in remote villages—who often vanish into the shadows of global trade. BanQu's platform changes that by tokenizing carbon credits from bamboo cultivation. Imagine: a farmer plants sustainable bamboo, and #blockchain records every step immutably. From seedling to shelf, the supply chain gains full #traceability. No more opaque middlemen; instead, verifiable data that turns forest stewardship into financeable assets. Ashish drove home the stakes: without this, farmers miss out on the green economy boom, perpetuating inequality.
Ecosystem partners amplified the vision. Mark from Numat dove into the tech backbone— ensuring bamboo's carbon sequestration is quantified precisely, feeding directly into blockchain ledgers. Russell from Rizomo showcased durable bamboo products for construction. With ADB Temp Alternative Governor for Spain Carla and Governor for Switzerland Pietro shared investment policy and finance commitment. Together, they painted a holistic picture: farmers earn from carbon markets, investors spot high-integrity nature projects, and bamboo—nature's renewable powerhouse—fuels everything from construction to textiles.
Tech isn't just about efficiency; it's about equity. As global finance pivots to carbon tokenization platforms like these ensure rural voices aren't footnotes.
This panel wasn't abstract theory; it was a blueprint. With blockchain's #immutability and partners like BanQu, Numat and Rizome, bamboo supply chains could redefine #nature_positive_investing.
"Building Secure and Transparent Systems:ADB's Blockchain Initiatives in Asia and the Pacific" We were given opportunity to launch our publication that showcases our digital sandbox use cases exploring how blockchain technology can tackle financial inclusion and build resilient and sustainable systems.
