  • Groundline awarded seven‑year framework agreement with UK Power Networks Groundline is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a seven‑year framework agreement with UK Power Networks for overhead line and underground cable design services. The comprises of an initial four-year term, with the option to extend for a further three years. This award reflects our strong track record in collaborative delivery, early contractor engagement, and structured communication with supply‑chain partners. The agreement further strengthens Groundline's commitment to delivering our services in London and the Southeast, reinforcing our commitment to supporting UK Power Networks’ major investment programme focused on enhancing network reliability and enabling low‑carbon technologies. We are proud to continue our long‑standing partnership with UK Power Networks and to contribute to the ongoing modernisation of one of the UK’s most critical electricity distribution regions. https://lnkd.in/ewE7-pNr #GROUNDLINE #UKPowerNetworks #Engineering #Utilities #Infrastructure #NetZero #EnergyDesign

  • We’re excited to welcome Fergus Lobb to the Groundline New Zealand team as our newest Intermediate CAD Technician. With five years of CAD & engineering experience in the mechanical engineering sector, Fergus has a real passion for transforming ideas into practical, high‑quality designs. Much of his work is focused on the transmission industry, contributing to New Zealand’s growing renewable energy sector, an area he’s genuinely motivated by. Fergus was drawn to Groundline in search of a new challenge, and he’s already enjoyed connecting with new people and meeting the wider GL team.   Fun fact: Fergus is a twin! His sister, Leilani, is a dairy farmer. They both grew up on a dairy farm near Ashburton. When he’s not talking VW Golfs or Subarus, Fergus is out hiking, tramping, or spending quality time with his partner, and their much‑loved dog and cats.   We’re thrilled to have you on board, Fergus. Welcome to Groundline!

  • Massive electrical infrastructure upgrades are already underway around the world to help countries achieve their goals of net zero emissions by 2050.  But the scale of the task remains huge.   For example here are some stats of the magnitude of what is needed:  ⚡ Australia needs10,000 km of new transmission lines by 2050  ⚡  The US may will need to expand its transmission systems by 60% by 2030, potentially tripling them by 2050  ⚡ Today, more than 1,000 GW of solar and 500 GW of wind projects are stuck in interconnection queues globally     These numbers highlight one thing: no single organization can deliver this alone.  Achieving net zero will depend on strong, proactive partnerships that solve bottlenecks before they form. Our UK Director Adam Yates CMgr MCMI MIoD, unpacks the scale of the challenge and how collaboration must evolve to keep pace. • The UK’s National Grid Electrical Distribution (NGED) engaged Groundline Engineering to conduct a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study for the DH Route. The line needed refurbishment to meet modern performance, safety, and capacity standards. NGED wanted to know the optimal upgrade solution to enable them to move confidently into the construction phase.  Groundline Engineering delivered:  ⚡ Accurate access maps   ⚡ Clearance diagrams   ⚡ A detailed FEED report to support contractor tendering   ⚡ Foundation and vegetation management recommendations  The result?   A fully validated upgrade path where all towers meet structural and clearance requirements, and a new conductor system which significantly enhances capacity. • National Apprenticeship Week 2026 is here in the UK, with the theme 'Skills For Life'. At Groundline UK, we’re really proud to be growing an apprenticeship pathway. We stepped into this in 2024 with one apprentice and it went so well, we are carrying on.  We now have three apprentices building real skills, while contributing to live projects.  Alfie was our first-ever apprentice. He is developing as an Apprentice CAD Technician, producing a wide range of technical drawings and working towards an HNC in Electrical Engineering while attending college weekly. Max is our first Degree Apprentice. He is working in our Nottingham OHL Design Team and progressing through a Level 6 Integrated Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship (BEng Hons). Harvey, is an apprentice in our Nottingham CAD team and studying at Nottingham Trent University, working towards a Senior Technician qualification.  We really believe having apprentices in our team is bringing value to us as a company, our team and the apprentice themselves.   #NAW2026 #SkillsForLife #Apprenticeships #GroundlineEngineering #Greatteam

DTECH 2026 is officially underway! GROUNDLINE was proud to sponsor Utility Inspection & Geospatial Alliance (UIAG) and be part of some insightful discussions with utilities from across the industry. One thing that stood out to us is the opportunity to further strengthen these programs by integrating objective pole strength and condition data alongside existing inspection methods. Groundline’s THOR Poletest™ can provide this objective data in a way that integrates seamlessly into current inspection workflows, helping utilities better quantify pole condition and remaining strength with greater confidence. If you’re attending, make sure to stop by Booth 4748 (Hall B2) for live THOR Poletest™ hammer demos and say hello to Christian Nolden, Taylor Froeba , Kyle James (CMgr, FIML, MinstD), and Steve Wright from the Groundline team. #DTECH26 #GroundlineEngineering #InfrastructureInnovation #GridModernization #UtilityInspection #AssetManagement

  • As we continue to see progress in renewable generation, it’s easy to equate “clean” with “sustainable.” But true sustainability goes deeper. Kyle James (CMgr, FIML, MinstD), Groundline’s CEO, has pondered what this means, exploring if we really are building a truly green future? The legacy of clean energy has to be more than low emissions. His conclusion is that we need to embracecircular design. Without it, we risk creating tomorrow’s waste while solving today’s carbon challenge. The key questions utilities need to consider: ~ Are renewable systems designed with end-of-life in mind? ~ How do we ensure materials can be reused, repurposed, or recycled? ~ What does real sustainability look like for the energy sector? Kyle says, it’s time to move beyond generation and start thinking regeneration. • ⚡ The power line industry’s greatest risk isn’t storms, labor shortages, or supply-chain delays - it comes from how we think about our own work, says Christian Nolden President Groundline USA. He says we’ve built a culture around completion of projects, not ongoing asset management. The result? Aging infrastructure which comes under increasing strain. Christian says it doesn’t need to be like this - and in some regions and industries it is not. Our latest blog explores how bridging the gap between design and operations can transform reliability and reduce lifecycle costs by up to 25%. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gWKGV-MH  #AssetManagement #UtilityDesign #Infrastructure #EnergyTransition #LifecycleDesign #GroundlineEngineering #AssetStewardship #FutureReady
